Once you have the water at the concentration desired, you leave it there. If you do a water change, make sure the replacement water is at the same concentration.
salt aka table salt can slow or alter the rate of absorption of nitrite.. in low pH ammonia is less a problem as it exists as NH4..
that will largely depend on your source water.. I rarely use RO for my domestic dicus but my pH is 6.8 kh 3-4 gh 6-7..basically low tds and acidic
small 2-3" will start at $20 ish
