So yesterday I went about hauling 45 gallons of saltwater, 2" worth of live sand, and 50 lbs of live rock from my friend for my 40g breeder. I only actually used 35 lbs or so of the rock so far, and have the rest hangin' out in a bucket with airstone, water, and heater. Sorry for typos, it was a trying day. This is what came with the sand, rock, etc. and what I'm going to get with my current budget.

hydor koralia 1 powerhead (adding evo 750)
seaclone 100 protein skimmer (greatly considering keeping and modding..although it really doesn't seem to want to 'skim' at the moment. just kind of takes in and spits out water without filling the top cup. it was free after all)
tetra whisper 45ex (he used it for more mechanical filtration on 75g)
400w visi therm heater (keeping and using but not attaching to glass lol)

As usual thanks in advance...I hate the fact that it's 3am and I really have little idea what I'm typing. Spray painted the stand black so it looks all fancy, pics to come in the later part of the morning. So far I've found a fat bristle worm, 4 cerith snails and 2 pistol shrimp for hitchhikers after putting the sand in my tank. Awesome part? The bristle sat in my hand for about 15 seconds before I realized what the slimy feeling on my hand was. Ew.

I know how long of a day that was so hopefully you are sleeping and not reading this yet :).

Sounds like you are aware of some mods for the seclone but wanted to give you this link:

Do you recall what the pistols looked like? Size, color, etc?

Did you use the old sand? Can't recall what you decided there. Did any fish come with the deal? If so where are they?

Congrats on the setup!!!

Couple of shots from the new salt. And a pic of my cat, ziggy. He's very photogenic, but also very fat.

Nice looking scape!. No problem with the old sand since you don;t have anything new in the tank but gonna need to test and would expect a decent cycle with the stirred up sand. If your rock is tightly stacked just make sure you have that much more flow or loosen it up a bit later (really does look good though). Glad you didn't get any livestock as it probably would not make it.

Don't sweat the BW's, they are very good cleaners.

Thanks again! Glad to hear I'm working it right lol. I'm adding a koralia 750 or 1050 to the right side of the tank and moving the koralia 1 down a bit more so that the flow is directed primarily at cleaning the rock. Should be here in 3 or 4 more days...I hope lol. That plus an api salt master kit. I really want to do this right, get a water change done correctly, then start adding my cleaners and rest of the stock. I want to leave the scape as it is to accommodate preferably 2 bottom dwelling and 2 middle level fish. Should I add more rock or leave it? Thanks a ton, man. Can't thank ya enough.

Thanks un! I'm gonna clean the sand/debris off the rock tomorrow before work. Should look even better, to the point you can actually see it haha.
