Well I got back a few days ago and luckily the larva were all gone. Unfortunately though, my pleco was dead. I immediately tested the water with strips and everything was fine. Yesterday I found two more dead but I have no idea why, they all look healthy and act normal. I have to leave...

Unfortunately I gotta leave in just a few minutes, lowered water level as you suggested and skimmed the surface some more, can't see any more larva or bugs. Hopefully when I get back it wont be infested... looks pretty good right now though. Thanks again everyone for the help.

Tank is 20 gallon tall, aquaclear 30 filter. Right before I left I raised water level almost all the way to the filter output, so that probably helped stagnate the water a bit. Can't find camera but i tried to get a better look at the bugs, they are small and white or very light green, hard...

Just got back from being gone a few days, found some larva on the surface of the water and some small bugs flying around when i open the hood. Not sure what they are but im assuming mosquitoes. Need advice as quick as possible because i gotta leave for another 3 days in about an hour or two...

The tank is a 10 gallon. The plants were in the tank for about 5 days before I noticed any snails so I'm hoping the sails that I found were from pre-existing eggs and that I got all the snails out before they had a chance to breed. I don't want to buy a fish for the sole purpose of eating...

Sorry to hear about your paradise fish. :( Spike tails are pretty cool from what I've seen, I've never kept one but my LFS has a few and I was thinking about pickin one up, do you know how big they get? And I'd love to see some pics of yours if you get a chance to post some!

My java fern has had new plants growing on its leaves for about a month and a half now, some are starting to develop leaves. About how long does it usually take the new plants to mature? Do they fall off on their own or should I pull detach them myself eventually?

Only fish I've ever named is my betta, his name is Master Betta.

oh ok, I didn't actually see the eggs being laid or see any eggs on the glass or plants, I just saw the one carrying the eggs doing some weird thing where she stands in one place and shakes the eggs back and fourth, the next morning when I looked at her most of the eggs were gone so i assumed...
