    Turtles from the Flea Market

I was in the same situation, got a red eared slider at a flea market 14 years ago. The Austin's Turtle page is probably the best comprehensive care sheet out there, and I would give it a read. Red Eared sliders are not a beginners turtle, but they are often sold that way. I had mine in a small...

    Daffodil Cichlid breeding Journal

A little update, all the eggs have now hatched, and I am quite honestly confused about the fry situation. 3 days ago I noticed the free swimming fry (the 5-6 of them) and today now that the other eggs have hatched, I notice that they look nothing like the ones I saw 3 days ago. These are far...

    Cichlid tank size?

If you are talking about N. pulcher (or brichardi) still, you can start off with 4-5 juveniles, but you will quite honestly be down to a pair sooner or later. I have 3 in my 29 gallon, and now that 2 have paired off, the last one is pretty much restricted to a small spot in the front corner of...

    Cichlid tank size?

You COULD add in some fish, but all bets are off as to if they will survive. 1-2 oto catfish might escape their notice and be fine, but I'm pretty sure loaches would be picked off eventually.

    Cichlid tank size?

Ok, with South American dwarf's you'd leave your options open for a community type setup. German Rams, Apisto's, Bolivian rams, and kribensis (not a south american, but you can treat it as such) are peaceful species that can coexist well with other fish. You mentioned brichardi, I have a very...

    Stocking a 90 litre

You are pretty close to full on that tank. Replacing the fish that died or adding 2-3 otos would be the easiest.

    Future Tank Stocking

Seems like your tank might be a little overstocked as it is. 2 german rams along with a gourami/apisto in a 24g tank is probably going to be too much. If you remove the rams, you'd be at your max stock IMO.

    HOB vs Sponge Filter?

Why not the best of both? Add a sponge to the intake of your HOB filter. It'll serve a similar purpose of giving more surface area for bacteria, provide pretty good mechanical filtration, and still have higher flow rate than a sponge filter.

    Daffodil Cichlid breeding Journal

Whoa, it's been a long time since I posted here, but at last, results! Over the past year, the fish have spawned twice, but in both cases the eggs disappeared after a day. Today, while doing a water change, I noticed some tiny wrigglers, finally they had a successful spawn. I seemed to have...

    Stocking question (2 x 10g)

First Tank: No issues Second: Some Possible problems Firstly, a school of 4 cardinal tetras is pretty small. They really are a schooling fish, and 6+ is recommended. The bigger issue I see is with the betta and male guppies. Betta's aren't overly aggressive with other fish (usually) but a male...

    Maybe a stupid question

I've used the potting soil method and I found it pretty easy to deal with. If you are going to be moving around things its not the best option, but if you're on a budget and keep the same aquascape its simple enough. I used Miracle Gro Organic Choice Potting Mix that I sifted through some window...

    Blue rams and tiger barbs?

As ROYWS3 mentioned, it really does have to do about the size of the tank and how big the school is. If you have anything under a 40g, I wouldn't recommend it. Tiger barbs are notoriously nippy (when not in a large enough school) and rams are pretty delicate.

    Umbra Limi

Mudminnows are fairly hardy and easy fish, so something like java moss would do the trick. If they do spawn in plants, a large clump of java moss is a low work plant that should provide plenty of space for them to spawn in.

    Need recommendation for lab plant

Another plant is one often used in highschool experiments, elodea or anacharis. Grows super fast and can be made into smaller clippings.

Jewel Cichlids in a 29 gallon?

I would say you could try 3 females or 2 males assuming you have lots of hiding spaces. I would really consider breeding though, you are going to have only 2 or 3 anyway. Jewels are really easy to breed and watching cichlids rear young is pretty interesting. I will admit that getting rid of the...

    Looking for a centerpiece fish

Good luck to any fish that tries to live with a pair of brichardi in a 20g. They can take over 55g tanks so a 20g would be no problem. You could fit a pair in, but it would be a bit cramped, especially when they start breeding.

    HOB Filtration for my 55s...

Aquaclear HOB filters are the best IMO. I have 2 AC70's on a 60g. I think 1 AC110 would be good for a 55g tank.

    Yet another stocking thread, 29g

I agree with the smaller rainbows. A school of those with some smaller cories (such as pandas or juliis) and you'll have quite and interesting tank going.

    Fishing!

I would totally take one of the RD's home, assuming I had the space. They look great!

new 5g planted project, actinic lighting question

Do you have any lights on there other than the actinic lights? Those alone are probably not great for your plants, most people mix them up with something else as well.
