    Help! Clownfish keep dying!

Stop trusting that LFS. ;) A couple possibilities. Nitrite usually is less of a concern then ammonia in salt water, but if the LFS is saying you are cycled then they can't turn around and say it's too early to test for nitrite. Nitrite appears mid-way through the cycling process. If it's too...

    30 gallon reef stocking question

Pods can go right in the tank and will reproduce, assuming they are given a chance. Dragonets aren't known for giving pods much of a chance though. They are very efficient hunters and hunt just about every waking moment. Hence why smaller tanks need to culture/buy pods separately.

Maybe the start of Vermetid Snails. Hard to tell without a better picture.

Flame angel just died from ICH - How do I treat my tank?

If there are no fish in the tank, starvation. Leave the tank empty for a few months. Then QT all new fish. If you don't plan to keep inverts, copper. It's sort of a nuclear option, hence why it is relegated to QT usage. If there are fish and you don't want the tank to kill all invert life...

do you freshwater dip your cleaner shrimp?

Saltwater fish can survive it, as long as it is timed right. If their internal balance shifts to freshwater, then yeah, dead fish. But that takes time (minutes) and their natural balance is somewhere around mid-range brackish (whatever level hypo-salinity QT is). The idea is that it can kill...

    Ich on my flame angel?

A cleaner won't touch it. The main two choices for dealing with Ich are copper-dosed quarantine before introduction or keeping the fish healthy and hoping the infection is kept managed.

    Khemul's 75g Soft Coral Reef

Yeah, the 1250 isn't too much. I was originally going to eventually do a Tunze 6025 (modded) or a 6045 (probably still will some day, when I can afford it), which would only be a little less powerful really. And now I have a small wave on the surface, since pointing it any further downwards will...

    Heads up, GFI protection

Just treat the whole area like it is outdoors and prone to getting rained on. Covers, weatherproofing, etc. GFIs and such aren't going to do anything. Now if you are worried about about reaching in and getting zapped... well the saltwater side of the hobby tends to love GFIs for a reason.

    Khemul's 75g Soft Coral Reef

The foray into mixed reef didn't go over all that well. The Torch did great for a couple weeks, then got wiped out rather rapidly by brown jelly. So, back to soft coral tank. A couple Rock Flower Anemones also to keep it from being 100% softies. There is a frag of Blasto Merletti growing nicely...

Help stocking my 200g marine tank :)

Arrow Crabs are tricky. The thing about crabs is that it is all about ability. Can they kill/eat it, rather then will they. With Arrow Crabs the size depends on a combination of species and gender. Many of those combinations get big enough to take out tank inhabitants. Horseshoe Crabs are also...

Do corals need an excess of light to have a lot of coloration?

A lot of it depends on the coral itself. Some corals color in response excess light. Some color in response to less light. Some color based on water chemistry. Some even color based on light spectrum (they absorb energy from the light and reflect the rest back at a lower wavelength).

    trimming corals

The term you are looking for is "fragging". Not sure how it'd work with a Favia, but with a lot of corals that is exactly what you do.

    Khemul's 75g Soft Coral Reef

The MTS experiment went in an odd direction. Got them acclimated to full strength saltwater. They survive in a tuperware container filled with seawater perfectly fine. Once they get dropped in the display tank they seem to do fine at first. Crawl around, burrow into the sand, climb the glass...

    Display refugium lighting

Macros will grow under the same lighting as a reef. They are just less picky. If you can customize color, 1:2 neutral white to royal blue or 1:3 (or maybe even 1:4) warm white to neutral should supply plenty of red. But any reef level light should supply more then enough light, especially with LEDs.

    Khemul's 75g Soft Coral Reef

Some minor updates. ` Slight rescape. Replaced the egg crate top with bird screen. Didn't really care about the light loss, or even the odd effect it had on the lighting color, but that weird checkerboard shadow effect was getting to me. The leathers are sulking again, except for the Toadstool...

    I Need Help!!

Did they simply uninstall Snap.do or did they restore/reset the browser settings also? Both are usually required, as the changes remain after the program is removed. Those programs usually aren't that persistent. They just need to be uninstalled through the control panel before any fixes can be...

    Shark Week...what the heck?

Same network, so it really shouldn't be a shock. Discovery Communication was bad enough when they switched to horribly scripted reality shows (its like someone was challenged to inject plot holes into 'reality'... and took their job VERY seriously...). But yeah, when they started doing spoof...
