Old tanks like that aren't worth resealing and tanking a chance on leaking. Or worse. Petco sale is running now. Better off to buy a new one and not worry. And yes, I have resealed many, many tanks since I was buying used tanks all the time. Out of the current 100 I have I've resealed at least...
Nice Dudley. I also would recommend either sponge filters or the Matten. I run a Pondmaster AP 100 for my sponges. While I do like the ease of the metal racks I find with 10 gallon tanks I lose a lot to wasted space so I build my racks from 2 x 3 lumber. I run 6500K lights in black shop...
All well and good. If you're not in a cold climate. Alerts are great if you are close enough to do something about it. I always seem to have trouble with things when I am 1200 mile away. At least with 2 heaters I am covered.
Who cares what the dial reads? I sure don't on my heaters. I started with the old Supreme heaters that had no temp markings and that meant we had to keep an eye on temps when setting.
I put a thermometer in and adjust to the temp I need and get on with life.
I've checked a bunch of different...
That is not the case. Even the ones for bath say "100% silicone". If the additives are below a certain percentage they do not have to be listed. 100% silicone means it is not modified with latex caulk, or acrylic or anything else. It can still have mildicides in it and be 100% silicone
I finally broke down and bought one after using the one over at a friend's fish room. I'm on well water and pressure goes from 35 to 60. It works. Sort of. From my tanks higher up it does fine. Lower tanks not as good. Only reason I really bought it was I found it for $38 on line and Petco...
If I'm not using a tank for a while I clean it all the way. I've found not doing that the calcium buildup I leave etches the glass. Added advantage is if I need the tank in a hurry it's ready to go. You're already emptying it and you've made a mess. Just finish it up and be done with it.
I had to store my tanks for over a year as our house was being built. No problems at all. My 22 breeders were dry for years and they've been running again for a couple years already.
You just need to remove the silicone from the corners without separating the glass. I've got 41 tanks running. Some of them are my original tanks from 1980. Some I bought a fews years ago from a farm that went out of business. They're 22 breeders that are since 1980 also. Made by AGA. Out of all...
I've never heard of an air pump output stated as gph. To most folks that means gallons per hour. Air pumps are normally in CFM or CIM Cubic feet per minute or cubic inches per minute. GPH ,makes it harder to compare to other pumps.
Personally I use a Pondmaster AP100 but I've got a lot of tanks...
I was saying the higher water temperatures caused my guppies and those of other breeders in my area to slow down and in most cases stop breeding. As temps start cooling here breeding will start up again. And it's not just fish. My hens don't lay nearly as regular as when temps are a bit cooler.
I've actually found the opposite to be true. I'm not getting much activity in any of the guppy tanks lately. Only thing I can attribute it to is the higher temps. Many of the members in our aquarium society have voiced the same.
OK now this is in no way recommended for amatuers.
I get home from the society auction about 10:30-11:00 pm. I've bought fish. I always buy fish. I generally don't have cycled empty tanks though. I take the hose, fill up tanks, add fish.
I've learned many of the members do the same thing.
How do...
My mind was too too far ahead of my typing.
...unbeknownst to him. He noticed that in certain tanks his fry were growing faster and stronger than in other tanks. He couldn't...
If I am using oil I use 000 steel wool and 0000 for the final if I am not rubbing it out for a mirror finish. Water will be sandpaper for obvious reasons.
I wait 24 hours between coats and sand right before I recoat. If you do it while it's tacky it gums things up.
For new work I won't sand the...
