    Discus mating threesome??

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this happening in a community tank. I had a mated pair, and then I had a triad. 2 females mating at the same time, on the same branch location with a single male. There seems to be a bit of female jealousy, but they both lay their eggs and let each other...

    Sex Education for discus

It took my discus male a few months longer than the female to stop eating the eggs... maybe they just mature slower. At any rate he figured it out at about the 12 month old mark. Good luck!

    Discus killer needs advice...

Same parameters, it was a new tank, but i washed it down before using it. Checked PH, it was fine, but I don't alter PH ever so I havent had an issue, my fish are used to it. Temp was the same throughout... Update: stayed up all night checking the fish... all 3 pulled through. Water is...

    Discus killer needs advice...

I upgraded my 55 gallon tank to a 60 gallon tank 2 days ago. I had 6 discus in the bare 55 with some driftwood. My fish got quite large and lovely, and I wanted to add a sand bottom for various reasons since I was done growing the fish (also have 3 cory cats and khuli loaches). Decided to do...

    Discus mating aggression

That's upsetting. I thought they could be buddies forever. On a happier note, the eggs are now wrigglers. Although this has not improved the parents mood. This is the first time the eggs have made it this far so it is kind of cool to see. I think they ate a few by accident ...or maybe it was...

    Discus mating aggression

This is a weird question for a discus forum, but how can I prevent pairing from happening? I don't want to raise fry, I just started keeping discus in the last year so I'm still working on the basics. What is everyone else doing to keep their discus friendly. I'm space limited and only have a...

What the heck are these shrimp?

Unknown shrimp Hi, I think I have the same shrimp as you. I purchased it a year ago and was told it was an amano shrimp...which I went on believing until I recently purchased another 'amano' shrimp as a friend and noted significant differences. Heads up, mine appears to be growing still...

Apple Snail gone Wild part 2!!

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to share an update on my little apple snail friend. I posted a link about *him early in 2011 when he started growing massively huge. If you are intestested in some ''baby pics'', here is the link to that post...

Need advice on Hydra in a Discus tank

Hi Everyone, I recently spotted some Hydra on the plants in my aquarium. I just want to know if it can harm any of my fish. My Discus are not adults yet, but they are around the 4" mark and growing fast. Tankmates include 3 corys, 1 chinese algae eater (who refuses to be caught and removed)...

    Green Algae Enthusiast

Tank is 55 gallons, heavily planted, 60gallon HOB filter, no special lighting just Marineland Eclipse (came with tank). No heavily stocked right now. I have about 14 fish - 5 tetras, 5 platies,2 mollies and 2 bettas (females). Oh.. and one amano shrimp. I recently lost an angelfish. I have...

    Green Algae Enthusiast

I love it! I want more of it!! Please tell me how to encourage the wonderful green stuff to cover my rock backdrop. I have a massive rock wall that is siliconed to the back of my tank... looks great...not great for cleaning (I never intended to clean it, it was supposed to be covered with...

How to grow a ''carpet'' bottom??

I've seen a lot of photos where people have planted the entire bottom of their tank in a low growing, almost moss like plant. Can someone tell me what it is called? Does it spread like that or do you buy a ton and plant it like that? Is it hard to grow? My pet store doesn't seem to have...

Multiple Female Bettas in Community Tank

I have kept platies with female bettas in the past with no issues. Pretty much ignore each other. But I have also kept bettas with shrimp... and that didn't work out so well. Shrimp are tasty and although they are fast... bettas are sneaky little things, so move the shrimp out, or the betta will!

Introducing new angel to old angel?

    Apple Snail gone wild!

So funny that you say that... I went out today to price 5 and 10 gallon tanks to house him and a couple of tetras... I also love the planted tank... I now have a 'plant rehab' tank for regrowing the roots that Toby eats. I have lots of plants now, but he does eat them pretty quickly. The key...

    Apple Snail gone wild!

I agree... although I didn't know it at the time when I purchased it. I'm not so sure that the pet store knows what kind of snail they are selling...they seemed surprised when I went back and told them it ate everything in my tank and I needed 10 new plants (which I have replaced a few times in...

    Apple Snail gone wild!

Just thought I'd share a picture of my apple snail. His name is Toby and I believe he has an evil plot to take over my fish tank. I've had him under 3 months and look how big he has grown in that time! He started the size of my thumbnail and now weighs 70g. Loves lettuce and all aquarium...

Why is my betta changing colors?

I had a pale coloured betta that developed more colour over time (went from almost white to a pretty blushing pink). I think it probably is related to food. Maybe you are feeding something that enhances colour (that's what I feed mine). In any case, I don't think it is a bad thing, it was...

Introducing new angel to old angel?

Hi, I could really use some advice regarding angelfish introductions. I have had a pair of angels in my tank for awhile now and they are probably 3/4 grown. I raised them together and they chased all my other angels until I ended up just keeping these two (hoping I would have a bonded pair)...

    Angelfish and female bettas

I find that it always depends on your fish. I currently have a pair of mid sized angelfish in a tank that also has a female betta. The betta seems more interested in them than they do in her. But I only have 1 betta... let me know how it goes with a larger group. I'm considering getting more...
