Odyssea CFS 500 -- massive drop in performance even with new media. Help!

Final update: Got it fixed... Here's what happened if anyone is interested. There was bypass somehow, and all the crud ended up in the /middle/ of the media, around the interior intake strainer for the pump. The poly batten was pristine around the outside of the sponge surrounding the...

Odyssea CFS 500 -- massive drop in performance even with new media. Help!

Update: Well, there seems to be something wrong with the pump after all. I took my working unit, set it in the tub next to the broken one, and switched the cord between them with both full of water to test flow. The broken unit flows 1/10 or less the water of the working one with no tubes or...

Odyssea CFS 500 -- massive drop in performance even with new media. Help!

Had it working (sort of) yesterday, woke up to almost zero water movement, opened it up and everything is as it should be (exactly the same as my other, identical unit which is working fine!) and now the **** thing won't even prime. With a bottom motor design. It makes no sense! I tested the...

Odyssea CFS 500 -- massive drop in performance even with new media. Help!

Same hoses I've been using from the start, and no, I did not wrap the bottom sponge, I'll start that. Sand is not the issue with this unit, no sand is used in this tank. It is not clogged, the valves are fully open, the hoses are not clogged... nothing that should cause this is there. It pumps...

Odyssea CFS 500 -- massive drop in performance even with new media. Help!

I do have a Laing D5 vario 12v pump I might be able to frankenstein to work somehow, but I'd really rather avoid all that. No suggestions?

Odyssea CFS 500 -- massive drop in performance even with new media. Help!

Okay, I own 2 CFS 500 with the circumference media mod done on both as well as improved hold-down hardware to avoid lid cracking. A couple months ago one got very noisy and I realized sand had worked its way in to it (I blame the sometimes overactive pleco in the one tank...) and ground down...

Suggestions for an interesting cull eater?

http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/myfish/36-Leopard_Gourami_Spotted_Climbing_Perch_Ctenopoma_acutirostre.html Another vote for these. They're personable, pretty, and their mouths are deceptively large. They also get along pretty well with most things, so you could get an angelfish or gourami at...

    125g for $450 - good deal?

450 for a 125g acrylic tank would (sadly) be deal of a lifetime material around here. Then again I'm surrounded by idiots that think their 20 year old 55G that needs a complete reseal and new top brace is worth $150... when I can go buy a new one for less than that.

Corys laid eggs -- what now?

Absolutely certain. Same amount I always put in (not much since it's Prime and very concentrated) for water changes. There's some ammonia (or is it chloramine? I can never remember) out of the tap here but Prime takes care of it.

Corys laid eggs -- what now?

No, about 6.8 from the tap, 6.8 in the water remaining in the tank. Rising ammonia in that water, but that's kind of expected given what happened and I didn't get them out immediately (couldn't bring myself to do it). Tank gets cleaned out and put in storage tomorrow.

    New here. Help stocking 20g?

I would never wish livebearers on anyone. If you get guppies or platys get all males or all females... or something that'll eat all the fry. Otherwise you will be overrun in short order, and they're almost impossible to get rid of.

Corys laid eggs -- what now?

I'd agree, but in hindsight I shouldn't have even mentioned mixing salt in it as that hasn't happened for a month or more and I'd done several water changes for that tank in the time since without issue. So not salt. Not temp. Not... anything I can test for. It makes no sense. It was such a...

Corys laid eggs -- what now?

Absolutely nothing was sprayed near the bucket, all it is ever used for is water changes. I keep it in a closet so stuff doesn't get in it on accident. I do sometimes mix salt water in it but I rinse it well. That is all. These were what, a month and a half old? So I thought they would be...

    10 gallon "native" build

I vaguely recall one that was bright, bright blue in a video you posted Jeta. I assume that was a dominant male, but what species?

    New here. Help stocking 20g?

Pearls can hit the 6" mark. I wouldn't put one in a 20G, much less a pair. My three spot in a 29G is pushing it. Good stocking above, though I'd be going for something a bit more "out there" were it me.

Corys laid eggs -- what now?

Yes, the bucket sat in the same room for almost an hour and I checked with a thermometer, it was within 2-3 degrees F. About 10 survived (all differing in size from maybe 1/8" to 1", to add another layer of confusion here), but they went in to the 29G as I am still uncertain of what happened...

Corys laid eggs -- what now?

They were all doing so great, growing... some were almost an inch. I hadn't done a water change for a week or so and figured it was long past due, so I did a roughly 50% change today, maybe closer to 60%. Let the water sit, put Prime in, dumped it as usual. Everyone was fine for a few hours...

    What Was Your GATEWAY Fish?

I had some small aquatic frogs when I was very little (does anyone remember "Grow A Frog"?) then around 7 or 8 got a 20G freshwater community tank. I've never owned a goldfish or betta, though I do now have 3 other anabantoids.

You would think people would know this was a possibility.

Not scary at all. Anyone that starts wailing and teeth-gnashing after reading this.... quiet. Calm down. Stay in doors, because if you go outside you're doomed. Also there's a chance I might have to deal with you. I had a small red eared slider turtle and a few frogs when I was 5-10. I never...
