    Amazonian Shrimp in Cananada...?

Judging by what I see here in the northeast US, you are probably no worse off than we are down here for finding Amazonian shrimp. :( Best of luck. Let us know what you find. My avatar is a crazy prawn from South America. No one can tell me what kind it was. Still trying to find one again...

Red Cherry Shrimp before and after removal of sparkling gouramis

With sparkling gouramis being as small as they are, I would introduce them to a tank that already had a strong population of cherry shrimp present. True, they would probably pick off some baby shrimp but they wouldn't really disrupt the established shrimp as much.

    Identify freshwater shrimp

Very cool prawn. I wish shops would sell them as feeders over here. :/ They most likely would not breed in freshwater as most larger prawn require brackish water to complete their larval cycle. :(

    Shrimp ID

I would be weary of putting it in a community tank. The only fish that seem to get along with prawn are larger plecos and even they can take a beating as the prawn matures. If you leave it in the 10 gallon, it will stay small due to living constraints. That's up to you. Where are you...

    Shrimp ID

That should work for now. I have a feeling that prawn would only get 4" max for body length. It's worth a shot.

    Shrimp ID

Tough to say what kind but definitely a Macrobrachium. Possibly grandimanus? Some prawn species uneven claws much like a marine lobster. The one you have could be one of those types or it lost its other claw in a fight and is in the process of regenerating it. If I were you, I'd keep it in a...

    Fish bore me....

You should make a tank for blue prawn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBez66fZYEw&list=UUmr6iZ45SxVX-lgNIK5uZhQ&index=1&feature=plcp Gouramis (aside from Osphronemus and pygmy) are pretty **** boring.

    Oh sigh -.-

The pool filter sand is fine. I have that in 3 of my tanks and everything is fine. The soil might be your culprit. Although many can get away with fully potted/planted shrimp aquariums, some will say that they ultimately don't mix the two.

    Sudden death- Coincidence?

Added aggression most likely from from overstocking. Could just be me but that seems like a lot of fish for a 33 gallon tank.. :/ Any amount of ammonia is a warning sign IMO. If it were a tank of just tetras and cory cats, I'd say you could get away with 15 fish. However, angelfish and...

    Oh sigh -.-

I agree with kenjivaj. When I had cherry issues, I'm pretty sure it stemmed from the black gravel I used for the substrate. Prior to putting this into the tank, I spent a lot of time cleaning it. Didn't matter, it still gave off something that would slowly kill off the shrimp. Luckily, I was...

    anyone seen these shrimp before?

Personally, I was hoping for an odd/new Macrobrachium species. Wait and see on this one.

This look like a sturdy stand to you?

Thank you for all the advice. I added extra wood over the weekend. It looks good now. MUCH heavier now. haha Pic attached. The tank rests directly on the (10) legs on the inside of the stand. I added extra crossbeams (6) to hold the top and bottom of the stand together along with (4) beams...
