ph dropping due to co2 is different than ph dropping any other way.....just watch your fish..if you are worried go head and create a little surface agitation with a power head or add a bubbler... what size tank BTW?

it all depends on the species... some require high light and the addition of pressurized co2 and ferts... around here i can collect ludiwgia repens, which dont require much... i can also get rotala ramosior which requires high light and co2.... first step would be to identify the plant
i agree with chrisinator... i would at least go to a paintball setup... i run four tanks pressurized.. a bigger co2 is better in the long run...even a 5lb tank could last over a year on small planted if you are diffusing your co2 correctly to minimize co2 loss
