Black Sailfin Molly with white lipstick???

Flexibacter, Black Molly Disease and Treatments? I am pretty sure my molly has Flexibacter, he has the cotton like stuff around his mouth. We have a new tank, and our nitrites have finally spiked. We are doing 40% water changes to keep the levels down, but I think the nitrite has contributed...

    Cycle started, what next?

Salt? Do I just put regular table salt in or do I need to buy special salt from the pet store?

    Cycle started, what next?

Finally, my cycle seems to be on the move. My ammonia is dropping rapidly, the water is clearing up nicely, and my nitrites are starting to rise. I have read some places that my nitrites will keep rising until I do a water change. Okay, I do water changes often. How high should I let them...

    Angry, pregnant Guppy

I think I have a pregnant guppy. Her gravid spot is quite large on one side, and rather dark. Lately, she has been really aggressive with the male guppy, darting at him from accross the tank, raming him and nipping at him every now and then. Is it normal for pregnant guppies to behave this way?

    Talk about an ammonia spike!!!!

So, I have been complaining to my "fish friends" that I haven't seen the traditional ammonia spike all the reading speaks about. You know, the ammonia spike which should be followed by a nitrite spike, then followed by both going to zero while the nitrates raise to a healthy level. Well, how...

Have any of you used Snail Away in your tanks?

"if it is of fair size you can quite easily pick up a snail eating loach or botia. even the smaller species do a great job. IE: yo-yo loach, skunk botia," ScottoMacD. So I take it a 10 gallon tank with 2 guppies and one molly does not quallify as a "fair size?" Once our tank is fully...

Have any of you used Snail Away in your tanks?

I had the same problem and contemplated using some snail killing chemical. I am always weary of putting yet another chemical into my tank water. So we spent a week doing huge water changes and searching the tank for every snail. We also pulled out our plants and decorations and soaked them in...

Artificial Trout Stream in my back yard?

True, it would not be easy, or cheap, but very enjoyable. A small pond at the end is a good idea, or perhaps in the center.

Artificial Trout Stream in my back yard?

So what do you think of this idea. I would like to dig a long trench in my yard, to resemble a wandering stream. I would like to set it up like a pond, except this trench would be on a decline, allowing for running water with an underground pump to circulate and push the water, giving a nice...

    Ammo lock and Nitrites/nitrates?

If I use ammo lock, will it prevent my nitrites from building up to get rid of the ammonia, thereby preventing my nitrates from builing up?

    Cycling planted tank uneccessary?

My tank has the same issue, and I don't even have as many plants as you do. I have had my new tank for about 3 weeks, and had plants in it about three or four days before I got fish. I have monitered the ammonia daily, and unless 1ppm is a spike, my ammonia has never spiked, my nitrite has...

    Easy color plants?

I love the few green plants I have in my new 10 gallon, but it is only green. I would like some colors but there are two problems: the petstores don't have a great selection and most online stores require a purchase of $20 or more. Does anyone know of some good red (or anycolor but green)...

Why are my Nitrite, ammonia and nitrate levels so funky?

I have had my 10 gallon for about 2 weeks now. I have two live plants and four fish. I got the plants a few days, maybe three, before my fish. The day after I first put my fish in, my nitrate levels were around 8. Not thinking this was significant, I didn't check them again until days later...

    Snail in my new tank

We found a small snail on our Easter Island statue. Is this dangerous to the fish, dangerous to the water levels, or a good sign the cycle is working? (I realize it is probably not good for our plants).

Our tap water has 1ppm ammonia!!!! What do we do?

We use AquaSafe from Tetra Aqua. The lable says it neutralizes certain chemicals, but it says nothing about ammonia. We did a 30% water change and the levels are back down around .50ppm.

Our tap water has 1ppm ammonia!!!! What do we do?

Our tap water is at 1ppm. In accordance with the adivce recieved on this forum, I have been doing a 20-30% every night because our levels were at .50-.75ppm. Now they are above 1ppm, and I think it is because the tap water already has ammonia. We use some chemical that is suposed to...

How high is to high for ammonia and preg guppies in new tank

I did a partial water change. Before the change the ammonia levels were at .50-.75. After the change the level was at a solid 1. I used some ammo-lock. You guys have me sufficiently freaked out now. That's good though. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

How high is to high for ammonia and preg guppies in new tank

.50-.75ppm is way to high for a new 10 gallon tank. I thought it was expected to be in this range while you are cycling until the bacteria builds up enough to deal with the waste in the tank? I also have two live plants.

How high is to high for ammonia and preg guppies in new tank

How high is to high for ammonia? Q on preg guppies in new tank 2 Questions: 1- How high is too high for ammonia levels? My levels are hovering around .50ppm - .75ppm. I assume that my indication that the cycle is complete is when my levels drop to zero. 2 - I may have a pregnant guppie...
