    Yellowstripe Maroon Clownfish

My maroon clown was a butthead. He was all about harassing other fish, but he got his rear end kicked by a blue devil damsel. In the end, I had to remove both the clown and the damsel because they were making everyone else in the tank miserable.

    Quarantine tanks

QT them until you see no more symptoms of Ich, then keep them QTed for another two to three weeks. You must kill ALL the parasites.

    Oldcastle

Used to be southdown, then about 6 months ago it became Old Kastle, with the "not for aquarium use" label. It sort of racked me off, to be honest, that they would pull that crap.

    Oldcastle

Makes you feel pretty good to pay $12 for 100 lbs doesn't it? My LFS carries "marine sand" for $5.99 per 5 lb bag. That is just ludicrous...

    Saltwater prep

You don't need to do this 10 gallons at a time! As long as there are no fish or inverts in the tank, just do the whole thing at once. It will take forever if you do 75 gallons in 10 gallon increments! ;)

    Saltwater prep

If you aren't dechlorinating your water, then you will need to let the water aerate some. I don't know how long, but you have to let the chlorine escape. Anyway, to fill the tank, put in your substrate first. Then fill 'er up with water. Then add your heater(s) and set them to the temp you...

    Sand now added

I've watched a puffer eat, and they love crunchy items like snails and hermits. Maybe a 2" puffer won't eat your clean up crew, but eventually he will grow, and then no one is safe! ;) Seriously, though, be careful with puffers and inverts.

    More Filter Question

No experience with Jebo products. Although, with a 280 gph powerhead moving water for you, it does sound like it could handle a decent sized tank.

    new aquarium dead firefish

Tap water filters don't remove half of what they claim to. Your fish died awful fast, and you have a lot of ammonia for them to be in the tank for 24 hours. I think Oriongirl is on the money here, fishless cycling is the way to go. Go to the grocery store, get an uncooked cocktail shrimp (just...

    More Filter Question

If you have a DSB and a skimmer, then there isn't much need for a power filter. I only run carbon occasionally (one a month or so) and the only reason for that is because I still have a HOT filter that I cannot bring myself to throw away. You still have good water turnover without the...

    yellow tang with rusty blotches?

Don't kick your self, it's a very common thought among aquarists. If people can take antibiotics, then fish can too, right? ;) The only problem is getting the fish to take a large pill. Doesn't work. Thus, you have to dump it into the water, and wait for the fish to uptake the medicated water...

    "Lighting" during cycling...?

I'm not really sure I heard a question in there, but I can inject a little wisdom. Don't worry about lighting and brown algae (diatoms). Diatoms are a part of your tank's maturation process, and will go away on their own provided that you don't stimulate their growth with phosphates and...

    hemorrhagic septicemia

Since I don't know which thread you'll read first, I'll repost my answer to your other thread: Do NOT treat your main tank with an antibiotic! Antibiotics will kill bacteria, both bad bacteria hurting your fish, and good bacteria in your substrate which process ammonia and nitrites. If you...

    yellow tang with rusty blotches?

Do NOT treat your main tank with an antibiotic! Antibiotics will kill bacteria, both bad bacteria hurting your fish, and good bacteria in your substrate which process ammonia and nitrites. If you use an antibiotic in your main tank, you will kill off your biofilter, and ammonia and nitrite will...

    kinds of products?

I have to agree on the deep sand bed. I had a 4" deep crushed coral substrate, and my nitrates were off the charts high. I switched over to a 4" DSB, and my nitrates are back down to about 10-15 ppm. Crushed coral works well as a buffer for your SW, but a DSB is better for the overall health of...

Didn't WetmanNY pee in his tank during cycling? That's one way to add ammonia! :D

    cycleing tank

Live rock is a good way to go, but I like using shrimp. After 60 days, you have a biofilter that could handle just about anything!

    whitespot

I'd keep the regal tang. Just my humble opinion. I like 'em. Purple tangs are just too agressive for my tastes.... I like a nice harmonious tank.
