    Strange little bugs in tank

well, I wouldn't consider this stuff hair algae. It is flat like literal seaweed (of course, I don't know much about algae but when I think hair I think of stringy stuff.) As for fish I am thinking about putting a regal tang in. I have a yellow tang and a percula clown right now. I read that...

    lighting ....................

I agree. what's the foot print on the tank, dead31? I have a 48 gallon long that is 15 inches high. I have kept mushrooms in it with 80 watt lights. I wouldn't do anything farther than certain mushrooms with that low of light but with your 260 watts you should be able to keep most everything...

    Strange little bugs in tank

thanks. They are probably copepods. They have the shape and the colour except they don't swim, but the second article said their are many species that are bottom dwellers. I will certainly watch them. I have no carnivores in the tank so they should be safe to grow and/or reproduce. The...

    Help Identifying Live Rock Creature

Yep, that is my guess. Definalty looks like one. You are a lucky reefer kallendorf if it is. I love nudibranches. I wish the fish stores in my area sold more of a selection, in my opinion, only the mantis shrimp rivals the nudibranches in beauty.

New saltwater guy needs a bit of help

I had the same problem with the sugar sand..of course I was an idiot and put it in when my tank was fully stocked with everything. I got worried after day 3 and removed everything living from the tank and shoved it all into a 30gal with nothing but a filter. As for adding the sand, I found...

    Strange little bugs in tank

Well, they probably aren't bugs but they look like them. The look like those mites you find at the beach crawling under driftwood. I overturned some liverock looking for my tiger-tail cucumber and found him but I also found some small, longish beige things crawling around. The are about the...

    Jebo products. Good or Bad?

I have noticed you can score some really cheap skimmers and PC hoods off Ebay and the company that manufactures these products is called Jebo. I did some yahooing and it appears the company is chinese. Are these products any good? Quality wise? Are replacement parts generic like...

    Noob to saltwater

Yes it would. Salt doesn't evaporate so it gets mixed in with the remaining water. How big is your tank? If its relatively small a minor amount of water being evaporated can cause the salt level to go up. Cheers

    Noob to saltwater

For the record, the hardiest fish I have ever owned is my Picasso Trigger. I remeber reading somewhere that in order to kill it, youd basially have to step on it. (exageration)..but from my experience and from what I have read from others, this is an amazingly haardy fish and good for beginners...

    Noob to saltwater

I should edit my initial post by correcting "inch of fish per gallon" it is supposed to be per 10 gallons. :)

    Noob to saltwater

Like I said, their are countless opinions on stocking techniques. Live rock is not a must in a fish only tank. From what I have found, the substrate can produce and hold the write bacteria, that is why porus crushed coral is so popular. If people can tell me that they had a tank without...

    weird cloudy film.

There is this cloudy almost clear film floating around in the tank. I am not sure what it is. There is a large Volitan Lionfish and a small picasso trigger. i have never noticed it before but some of the pieces are quite large. I have been trying to find out what it is. i was reading about mucus...

    Noob to saltwater

I change tanks quite often, when I started this forum I had a 33 gal, now I have a 70 and I am on my way to a 108. Right now I have a 8 inch Volitan, 1 blue velvet damsel, 1 small picasso trigger, and one baby snowflake moray. 10 turbo snails and a bucket load of hermits (some become dinner...

    heater mishap..... nightmare!!!

Same thing happened to me. Mine did it when I was changing the water and half the heater was above the water line. I think the drastic change in temp fractured the glass of the heater tube. All the fish were fried and luckily my hands weren't in the tank. Good thing it was a fresh water tank and...

Plumbing questions for DIY sump and o/f

OK, I have been searching the net trying to find the gravitational flow rate of water down a specific diameter of PVC pipe. The set up will be simple. I will have a box in the corner of the tank with the lip slightly below the water level so the water will overflow and go down the pipe. The...
