Yeah, I'm going to have to bring the other intake section with me to the store to try and find something that will work. I don't have anything on hand that's big enough except for clear vinyl hose, which isn't going to hang straight down with the inherent curl of the hose. A section of 1" ABS...
Got filter number one set up last night. Everything went fairly well, these things are huge!
One item of note....the instructions aren't terribly clear about the fact that the canister ships WITHOUT the main o-ring seal in place on the top of the canister. I got everything set up, pressed the...
The only think I think I'm going to have to modify is the intake pipe...it seems pretty short and I'll want at least one of them near the bottom. The tank is 30" tall, so I'm going to have to figure out how to extend it downward.
I was on the fence between the Sicce Whale 500, the C-530, and the Fluval 407. I really liked the Whale, but was concerned that two of them weren't going to be powerful enough for a 210gal. The C-530s were on sale through Chewy for $175 ea, so more powerful and cheaper than the Fluval as well...
Sweet...looks like they'll be delivered today, so hopefully I can make some time tonight for setup, at least on the first one. I'll replace the one XP2 that's already down, run the new canister for a week or so to get it cycled, then replace the other XP2.
My two 20+ year old Rena XP2s are finally giving up the ghost. Came home on Friday to a puddle on the floor and a slow drip out of the power cord hole. It looks like the motor seal is failing and letting water into the head of the unit. They're way too small for my 210gal anyway, so before...
You should probably add your location to the thread title and somewhere in the post so people know what they are looking at as far as pickup goes. Shipping something like this is likely not very feasible for most people.
There's some java fern and java moss in there, and some native shiners, fathead minnows and snails. Once I get some time in the next few weeks I want to catch some native sunfish to put in there as well.
Yeah the room is sort of under construction so we're not down there very much right now, but I'm working on a curtain/tank backdrop she can hang up as needed.
Post your FTS! Here's mine - the tank is in my daughter's bedroom, but the other side is an in-wall display in our rec room. Still waiting for that giant piece of driftwood to sink, it's been several months.
Zombie thread!
Never seen it, but I've heard of them getting enough purchase on the silicone in the corners of the tank to climb up. I assume you'd also still have things going into the water like heater cord, filter tube, potentially airline? All things they can climb.
Actually, with a small enclosure like that, a light bioload, and using established substrate/media from another tank, the cycling does efffectively happen immediately.
Pretty fish, sorry to hear. I've lost fish to jumps before too, it sucks. It has nothing to do with "happiness" or level of care. Could have been a loud noise nearby, the fish saw something that looked like food, who knows.
Nice pics...I enjoy passive bird identification, but wouldn't go so far as to call it "birdwatching" haha. Nice photo of the eagle. My wife and I went to Alaska for our honeymoon, and I remember the bald eagles there are as plentiful as hawks or turkey vultures are here in CT. Anyplace we...
I've never done it, so this is second or third hand information at best, but oscars don't exhibit sexual dimorphism so there's no good way to tell the males and females apart. Typically in cases like that you start with a group (say 6....hope you have a large tank!) and wait for two of them to...
Ask at the pet store if they have any kind of board for posting sale/trade/adoption type stuff (if not, ask them to start one!). Or, ask if they know of any customers that have large tanks that might be interested in adopting your fish. Or, see if there's a local aquarium club on FB in your...
This should read "equal pressure per square inch on all sides". The TOTAL pressure over the entire side will be different between the front/back and sides because they are different sizes.
Based on that thread, the front and back of a 10gal tank both have 52lbs of force pushing over the total area of the glass. The sides have 31lbs of force over the total area of the glass because they have less area.
