I'm there with excuzzzeme and RMorrow--I've actually seen females coloring beautifully at less than two inches when a group is living together. They'll mate and spawn; truly amazing little pups. The dude at the pet store sounds to be just working a job. Good luck!!!
re coloring: they are...
My experience with cons and mating cons informs me that you'd better get the third one out of there before they kill it. Lots of other cons--just jousting all the time. One other--the bell tolls. And they don't pair up just according to the biggest, I've found. Good luck!!!!
My sevs all display the same behavior; it's pretty common, nothing to worry about. It's the scraping/flashing you want to watch. Enjoy the sevs!!!!
I found that the hard plastic curve shape you shared in the link got in my way of keeping the suction cups holding the tube with holes in the manner I wished AND sank the out-take opening too low. In other words, I just took it off. Added an extra suction cup (rambunctious cichlids) and it's...
Hmmm . . . I've had my cories on Black Moon for 4 years now with no problems. But, different batches could possibly have different polishings, resulting some bag groupings with more sharp edges. Good luck!! I love my cories, too.
And, you need to remember that the conditions in which any species originally lived in is quite different from domestic conditions, and many generations later (unless wild caught, F1, F2, etc).
I know this thread is a few days old. . . . I have alot of severums in different tanks (most from Jeff Rapps) and have found they get along well with corydoras--I keep the Emerald cories. In the 125g I have a school of giant danios, too, which do really well with the sevs. Just my 2 cents...
Beautiful--love the little BGK hiding away, good shot!!
Paratilapia looks like a Polleni (I've had one a few years and researched alot--Polleni also found by Bleeker but has very small spots); too young to start developing the slight nuchal hump, and anal fin is also too immature. Just wait and...
Wow, great save!! I have a male con rescued from similarly horrible conditions; he was white and transparent, and now has shadow of stripes and white. He seems happy by himself (I didn't have any tanks safe for his little self) so he's putting on weight, very responsive, and hopefully will...
I agree that the severum won't last long when they're one on one like that, no buddies to gang up with. Severums can hold their own in groups--I have 3 with a Paratalapia Polleni and two Taiwan Reef Peacocks (odd leftover group) and I truly think the sevs survive due to numbers. Replace...
If they are a pair, look for the male's scales looking "pearly" and raised slightly. My male is doing that right now as they are in big-time spawning behavior. I think of their large-mouthed "attacks" more as gentle love bites, as they never try to hurt each other.
They're ok for a bit more...
I think Africans--Mbunas OR Peacocks--would work best. They max out at around 4-5", not really thick, and all males would be spectacular. Any females will not only be drab in color, but will get chased to death by the males. And you can mix species with all males. I had a 55 with around 5...
