An update after several months! I went on vacation for 2 weeks so the wood has stained the water a bit yellow (even after a 50% water change), but the plants exploded while I was away (especially the swords in the center) so I wanted to document it. :) I'm pretty proud of myself for growing the...
I think that you need to consider and find a way to have both tanks set up for a week, preferably at least 2 weeks. Your first move is to put some biological media (from the filter that you will be using on your 55g) into your current 20g tank to "seed" the media with beneficial bacteria...
Thanks, Jessica! :)
My light timers just came in, so now I can have a low morning light, bright noontime-6pm light, and then a dimmer evening-11pm light. It's pretty cool. I'll have to observe the plants to see what the sweetspot for the bright time is. Right now I set it at 6 hours, but I...
Thanks for the kind words, guys (and gals!). @Kannan Fodder, I've been following your thread. I've only had mine set up for a week, but I think it's safe to say that huge tanks are definitely a LOT of fun! And I will certainly be keeping my eyes open for some local driftwood to fill out the...
I used to frequent the AC forum a LOT when I was in college, around 7 years ago. When I graduated, I moved into a house with my fiance and we started planning the wedding and just kind of fell out of the hobby although I did maintain a tank throughout.
Well, it's been 6 years in the making...
There are several brands of expanding foam (the most common being Great Stuff brand). Great Stuff does make a pond variation of their foam called "Great Stuff Pond & Stone" designed specifically to be used with fish. None of their other lines of foam say specifically that they are fish safe...
Just came across something interesting where someone suggested maybe window tint. Would this: work on acrylic? Stick underwater? Be aquarium safe?
I wonder....

Those are definitely some cool backgrounds, but remember that this tank has two corner baffles that make the back wall of this tank non-flat. I'm now thinking that some sort of adhesive film would be the best/cleanest route to take. Any recommendations for where I might be able to buy some...
The problem is that it will be impossible to get anything of substantial size into the tank because there are only 2 small holes in the top of the tank. It is an acrylic tank, and with that type of top, getting full-sized sheets of acrylic in there is not plausible.
Hey guys.
This topic is for a freshwater setup, but it applies here since I know a lot of reef keepers have dealt with this type of thing, so please bear with me.
So I scored a 135 gallon, "reef ready" setup on Craigslist. I love it...except for the back panel of the tank. It is colored...
Hey guys.
So I scored a 135 gallon, "reef ready" setup on Craigslist. I love it...except for the back panel of the tank. It is colored acrylic (not just an applied layer of paint to the back of the panel), so there is no way to easily change the color. It is a bright blue, and while...
You still have not answered how you cycled the tank. Unless the tank is cycled, anything you put in there will die and your cousin will again be upset.
The tank setup I just bought is missing one of the two connector pieces for the supply of the wet/dry filter. I know next to nothing about plumbing. I took two photos of the pieces that I need to recreate, but I can't identify the individual parts that I need. Any help that you guys could...
A not so common suggestion:
How about a fancy pleco or a trio of them? L333's are really cool and very close to the "rare" L046 Zebra. I'm trying to track down some L333's myself, actually.
