    Filter advice for a 10 Gallon

    If you don't want sponge/air pump, I'd go HOB type, either Aquaclear or a biowheel filter - and don't be afraid to go big. The ratings they put on these things are "optimistic" at best. When I was running 5.5g tanks for shrimp, I tended to use an Aquaclear 20. They restart pretty reliably after...

    Music from my generation

    and here's a nice Boz Scaggs (ft. Duane Allman) cover of Fenton Robinson's "Somebody Loan Me a Dime" from 1969. IMHO, this is the best track Boz Scaggs ever committed to vinyl. Fenton's album of the same name was released some years later, but it's still his song popularized by this track...

    Music from my generation

    Whenever the Stones, U2, Clapton etc, etc found themselves anywhere near Meridian, Mississippi, they'd go see this guy play along with his son-in-law and the juke joint's dishwasher. Incredible guitar work from someone many have never heard of.

    46 bow -> 65 tall upgrade thread

    Thanks! I often have the same thoughts about the "hardscape" - I wish I knew what that plant was. It's something my son-in-law gave me a cutting of. It's pretty fast growing and gets reddish if closer to the lights.

    46 bow -> 65 tall upgrade thread

    Update time - New heater (see the split older one in another thread), now have an SAE, 1 Angel, a few pandas, Serpaes, Red Eyes, rubber lipped plecos...

    40B stock and plans

    Yep. I've lost fish to heaters too, I think. Even good heaters should be replaced after a few years. I just replaced this Aqueon as well as an Italian Visitherm Stealth last week. I think the one pictured took out a couple of lg. Angels.

    46 bow -> 65 tall upgrade thread

    After doing a nice hardscape and filling the tank, some of the driftwood decided to float, so not much in the way of photos until I can remove the extra anchor rocks. That said, the pair of angels and 5 scissor tailed rasbora have been transferred along w/ plants. A couple of days ago, I added...

    46 bow -> 65 tall upgrade thread

    Yeah - it's TX holey rock, probably better suited to an African Cichlid tank, which I may do eventually... I also have jungle vals, tall Crypts and other stuff that gets tall to break up the rock. Viewed from the right (where the couch is), the wood will also obscure the rock a little. From...

    46 bow -> 65 tall upgrade thread

    The 46 bow in my sig is being replaced w/ a 65 tall. Got it during a pre xmas sale w/ stand at Petsmart, fish have been hanging in the basement in old tanks. Pool filter sand over flourite - how's this for hardscape? Too much wood?

    Saltwater to Freshwater steps?

    I think you're already in the "overkill" zone. Give everything else that you can reach a good rinse w/ warm fresh water, then get it going for your FW fish. Using an overflow/sump combo will limit your options with respect to live plants but can otherwise make for a good, easy to maintain tank...

    CO2 system for 330 g planted tank

    All I can suggest is that you improve your circulation a bit and use a drop checker. Once you have some circulation, one diffuser should be adequate. You can hide it behind some structure in the tank or place it so that at least some of the bubbles get sucked into a canister filter or power...

    Eheim leaked yesterday

    All I can add is the obvious suggestion to either barricade the back of your cabinet or rehome the cats.

    I can't find a quiet filter!

    1) keep your tank topped off 2) if there are any big holes in the lid, put packing tape on both sides to seal them off to reduce noise and excess evaporation 3) all filters need to run for a month or three before they will run at their quietest due to the little layer of slime that tends to...

    Foster & Smith - now a Petco holding

    My guess: Less competition - not good for us.

    Water chemistry experts needed:

    If you are interested in CO2, research threads on Drop Checkers. That 30PPM rule falls apart if there is enough buffering capacity in your water to maintain a given pH despite addition of a fair amount of CO2. The method prescribed above is less than reliable. A drop checker, some 4dKH solution...
