i don't think i would try the peeing method, if the gf won't like the dead fish smell the pee smell probably won't go over well either ;)

i have a 404 on my 80 gallon for almost a year now and it works great and is nearly silent. good filter from my experience with it.

they do work well. i ordered a 25' one from petsmart.com a little while back because i could get it for like 20-25 shipped so i went for it. water changes are much easier now without the bucket (and trust me, 25% changes on an 80gal every week takes a lot of buckets of water :) ).

either you have air still trapped in the canister from when you cleaned it (unlikely) or its got a leak somewhere and is pulling air in from the atmosphere. i'd say check the priming stem and make sure its seated properly.

since chlorine escapes from the water as its ventelated (if you don't use dechlor) then i'd say its pretty impossible for it to build up too high.

the diffrence is that he didn't intend to rip them off, they had made an error in marking the price wrong. big difference.

i have the same problem when i move my fish (12+ inches). i've found the best way is to use a pitcher horizontally and lift it out with something over the open end to keep the water in. i don't know about you but i dont' have a net that's over a foot and the small one just pushes him around...

i actually had a tank that just sprung a leak once and drained half way down (20 gal that was just sitting there). pretty odd. i'm with OG though, if it was leaking at one point in time there's no way it would just magically stop later. maybe someone was playing a joke on him and sprayed...

try spraying the conjunction of the line and cap with some windex or soapy water. if its leaking you will see bubles comming out. either that or fill the bottle up with air and then submerge the cap area in water and squeeze the bottle to see if there are bubles.

no, you want to add just enough ammonia to keep it at 5ppm. when the level of ammonia starts to drop add just enough to get it back up to 5ppm but no more. eventually when you start to see nitrates then go ahdead and drop that level down to 3ppm though.
