I have to agree. I use 2 Rena filters on my 90 and 1 eheim classic on my 75 and the classic needs less maintenance all round and keeps the tank cleaner. I would rather clean the Rena though because it much easier access (and cheaper). But when it comes down to it, the 2 Renas will never compare...
Most tanks sold do not come with anywhere near enough light to grow plants if that is what you want do. The only way to use the hood that comes with a tank is to overdrive the bulbs, but that may still not give enough light without lot DIY overhauling. It may be wiser to look into a new hood or...
I haven't been on here for a while but I think I can comment on this. I use 2 of the same setups that Tanker pointed out and have had little problem with them. I say "little" because with time everything wears. Great systems, but I would by a 10lb tank just for the convenience of not having to...
It looks like cedar to me. I use cedar in my tanks with no problem. No matter how long it has weathered you will still get "stained" water from it. The piece I used was weathred for over 20 years in my back yard and it still turned the water a golden brown color. It did eventually go away and...
I haven't been on here in a while and I sure do miss seeing your pics Rich. Fantastic pics. It is amazing how good you can get after about 6 trillion shots eh?
Since the filter is a closed system it will make little difference how long the tubes are. Except for the actual friction that the water has on the tubes themselves, but I think this is pretty minute. All the filter is really doing is moving the water.
I have been using cedar in my tanks for years with no problems. Plantbrain has also used cedar in many of his very large set-ups. As long as it has been dried for years there is no problem using it except that it wants to float and has to be attached to slate to keep it down.
What settings/flash are you using? The pics seem to have a golden/greenish/yellow hue to them. I like the effect or if the fish are actually that color, I like them too.
I had one xp3 on my 90 gallon and it didn't seem to work all that well and it is no where near stocking capacity either. I added another one xp2 for bio filtration only (pot scrubbers) and together they work great.
I use cedar from northern Ontario that has beed bleached in the sun for years with no problems. I also have tried a lilac branch in my 25 gallon and have had no problems yet. It was also very dry before putting it in the tank and it is also quite small.
Unless you know wood it is difficult to tell. If it is not washed there by a river or creek just look around at the trees to get an idea of what is in the forest. Cedar is perfectly fine in aquaria. I have big pieces in my 90 gallon with no problems. It was in the sun for over 20 years and still...
I never stir the sand and have no problems at all. I do not believe it is a problem at all. If anyone has had any gas pocket problems I would like to hear from them. My fish are happy and they seem to live forever...lol. I only vacuum for looks and do PWC every 2 - 3 weeks. Just don't overfeed...
It is actually not useless to difuse with a HOB. I did it in my 10 gallon and the difference was amazing. It may gas off a lot, but what is diffused into the water is still more than just letting it bubble to the surface. A certain amount is going to be gassed off anyway once it goes through the...
I use an ehiem 2217 clasic canister with sand substrate in my 75 planted tank. I do vacuum, but only for looks. I use a 1/2" vacuum tube just above the surface of the sand to pick up any little stuff. My filter gets cleaned once every 3 months at best ( could be done more often because it gets...
:iagree: I never stir the sand in my tanks and I have never had a problem. I personally don't use root tabs anymore just dry ferts. I love sand, have never had any problems and would personally never go back to gravel.
