    Where's the algae? Nice tank!

    Lighting Question

If you are growing only low light plants or none at all then the stock light should be just fine. More lighting will just encourage algae growth.

    Do I need more CO2?

I trimmed the Ludwigia again today. It's growing nearly and inch per day! It's also getting redder and the Diandra looks good so I think I shall keep the co2 where it is, not yet green on the drop checker. No algae yet on this new tank except for the stressed foreground plants and the glass.

    Do I need more CO2?

36 inch Planted Plus 24/7 light on a 36 inch 40 gallon tank. The crypts were doing great but now sometimes show a layer dark slime which looks suspiciously like bga. The Pearlgrass was very stressed from the long shipping and is just now startilng to show some tiny new green leaves. Some of...

    Do I need more CO2?

I have Finnex 24/7 Planted Plus light about 18 inches above the substrate. I now run an inline diffuser through the filter outlet hose but it seems less efficient than the in- tank diffuser I used before which was set at a lower bubble count.

    Do I need more CO2?

kh 5, tds around 200ppm, ph drops from 7.5 to about 7.1 after co2 has kicked in for a while.

    Do I need more CO2?

I've had this 40 gallon tank set up about 3 weeks and am running co2 for the first time. I cannot get the drop checker to turn green at 3 bubbles per second. The ludwigia, which was nearly dead with it arrived after 4 days in the mail, is growing fast and pearling, but the crypts and...

    CO2 questions.

I wish I had kept the box when I bought this. It had a handy chart showing exactly when the PAR starts to shoot up. Right now it's 6;30 pm and the tank still looks fairly well lit but I know the par must be pretty low now.

    Finnex Planted 24/7

Does anyone have one of these? I bought the 36 inch version and have it over my 36 inch long, 17 inch deep 40 gallon tank. My understanding is this unit can support low to mid light plants but not high light plants. The most challenging plants I have right now are Ludgwigia Repons and Diandra...

    CO2 questions.

I should have said the CO2 went off at 3:45. The lights start to reduce intensity then.

    CO2 questions.

I have a Finnex Planted 24/7. It's challenging picking a time to set the co2 on and off since the lights are never completely off. I started the co 2 around 8:45 am and they went off around 3:45 pm.

    Oh, it's a 40 gallon tank.

    CO2 questions.

I finally decided to go higher tech and bought an aquatek mini co2 system with a Paintball cylinder. I use the aquatek 3 in 1 diffuser/bubble counter/ check valve, with the diffuser placed a few inches under the filter outflow. Water parameters this morning were 220 tds, 5dKH, and 7.5 PH. 8...

    So here's my new Betta!

Purigen would be my choice if you want to reduce tannins. It lasts much longer than carbon and is rechargeable. But, Betas love the tannins.

    So here's my new Betta!

Nice! Thanks for not putting him in a little bowl.

Indian Almond leaves in planted tank.

I've been adding some Cattappa leaves to my two planted tanks, enough to slightly stain the water. I have two questions. One, will the added tannins inhibit plant growth? I have lots of low and medium light plants. My PH is still currently neutral, tds is around 150 ppm. Also, would Otos eat the...

Help with True Middle Swimming Fish

I second the suggestion of Harlequin Rasboras. If you're looking for smaller schoolers you might try a large group of Orange Hatchetfish, a very small Danio that is a bit less active than other Danios but still very interesting to watch.

Swapping to a bigger tank for the first time help

Agreed, just use the old filter and decorations and fill the new tank with fresh water. However, if your current water has high nitrate levels you may want to add some into the new tank to prevent shocking the fish by going from high nitrates to zero nitrates.

    Orange/Chela Hatchetfish

Yeah, their colors show better after 3 days in the tank, but they really pop under more subdued lighting. They predictably are schooling less tightly now and are now exploring all over the tank, but they are still really good schoolers and prefer the upper waters. They are very active. I may...
