You certainly do need to have an airstone in you hatchery. You can make one by cutting two two liter soda bottles. Check out the diy section on baby brine shrimp hatcheries. I have several going at one time and you have to have a airstone to achieve good hatch rates.

I have 2 and on several occasions when the electric went out I ended up with a flood. Also I agree the two plastic clips that hold the impeller well together always break. Other than that they are good filters.
What is a surefire way to achieve a constant low dh and low kh and in turn a low ph? What can I add to my filter to help with this? I have heard to put crushed coral but won't that raise the ph,kh,dh, because of the calcium carbonate to high levels [above 8]?
It can cause stiffening of vinyl airline tubing. I know first hand cause I had to clean up a big mess of diy co2 mix from my wife's $2000 sofa which by the way still smells like rotten bread.
stealth heater
I have had this issue with two out of three of mine. I also believe they are overheating because of the amount of water that is being demanded of them to heat. Although I did add another 200watt heater to a 30 with a tidepool 2 sump that contained a 250watt stealth and it still...
eheim
Definitely not too much. Once the filter is full of media the flow rate drops dramatically. I have one on a 40 breeder zebra pleco tank and it is not enough. I have to have 2 340 gph powerheads to eliminate dead spots. If you can get a good deal get it, it is a great filter that will...

would quarterround do the trick. Got skills used to be a frame carpenter and solid surface fabricator. For the top I was going to cut glass to fit across the top evenly and silicone it into place. Just wandering if the glass would bend too much and cause a leak. Just to be safe I will...

Make absolutely sure that intake and outtake are not sucking air! My eheim used to do that all the time when the power was out and i had a diy intake and outtake and one of them were sucking a tiny bit of air. Just a thought
salt
you could use muriatic acid if the vinegar doesn't work. Make sure to wear rubber gloves and dilute it. after the acid all the hard water deposits will disappear and then you have to use plain old elbow grease to get the salt off, as mentioned before distilled water works better on salt...
I have a beautiful piece of driftwood and have reservations about how to sterilize it for tank use. I would boil it but it is to big. I would bake it but it's full of water and I don't know what temperature to bake it at. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
So far it is fine, got a good bead of silicone 1 all the way around the seam. I am going to let it dry for a couple of days and fill it up to see if it leaks then I will let you know how it goes.
And also a 40 breeder is not just for reptiles, it is actually made to hold water. The wide...
fixing tank
The tank is a 40 breeder and the silicone is completely removed and the glass is an exact fit. Just figured I would save 100 dollars by trying to do it. I have all the tools to do it with and am very experienced at diy projects.
