    Pimafix and Melafix

Just to make sure, the best way to cure a fish with a fungus is to quarantine the fish instead of medicating the whole tank, right? I'm not a forum newbie, but am still learning...as usual.

    Pimafix and Melafix

I can recall reading a while back that people use these medicines in an alternating fashion (i.e. One day Melafix, one day Pimafix). I recently found one of my Platy's with a fungus growth near the anal fin. I started treating with Melafix (at first) as it looked more like some sort of injury...

Treating Tail Rot -- how long?

I have two products from Jungle Labs. One is Ich Clear, the other is Fungus Clear. I never used the Fungus Clear (which is the one you have). I used the Ich Clear and that killed off a lot of my fish. After that, I just lost faith. I'm sure there are many other people that can tell you that...

Treating Tail Rot -- how long?

TwoTankAmin: Why not a fan of Melafix? zanytomato: I've only used Jungle Labs products once. Why once? It killed 60% of my fish population (5 Tetras, 3 Corys).

    Otos and Temp

To catch them in the wild they use something to slow them down. Drug them, of sorts.

Gold Dust Molly and Fin Rot

After the 7th day I plan on doing the "25%" water change that is recommended in the directions for Melafix. 25%?? Would it be bad if I did a 50%?

    Otos and Temp

The 'fat' one might be a female. She may not be pregnant, but the females tend to be larger than the males. I have two Oto's. One 'fat' and one not-so-fat. The 'fat' one is fine, thriving and all. No babies. So I figured it had to be the female and the other a male.

What type of food best for Corys?

Hikari Micro Wafers. They're awesome for bottom feeders.

Treating Tail Rot -- how long?

I know you can use Melafix to help with fin rot and it won't taint your water.

Gold Dust Molly and Fin Rot

I just realized my Gold Dust Molly has some fin rot on her tail and a bit on one of it's side fins. Seems to have happened overnight. My water temperature is at 80°F and readings are Ammo - 0, Trates - 5, Trites - 0, pH - 7.8, O2 - 14. I have already been treating with Melafix for 3 days...

    Distilled water

I used a 2 : 1 ratio. 2 gallons of tap water to 1 gallon of distilled water.

gourami seems to have difficulty swallowing

I had heard that Gourami's were supposed to be hardy fish. The two I obtained a while back died after two days in a fully cycled tank. All parameters were excellent (Ammo - 0, Trates - 10, Trites - 0, pH - 7.8, O2 - 14). Sorry to hear about your two losses and to hear that this one may be...

    Dwarf Gourami

I also purchased two Red Dwarf Gourami's and within three days they both died. Day one they were up and at em. Day two, one of them started facing up all the time and then died. Day three, scales raised up on the remaining RDG and it was dead by night fall. Man, these things aren't hardy at all.

    Whipser Power Filters

Yeah, I usually clean the sponge and the bio-foam, but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't messing up anything. Thanks!

    Will I starve my cories?

I recommend using Hikari Micro Wafers to feed the cories. They sink slow, they're small, and they eat them up.

    Whipser Power Filters

For those of you that have them, then this will be repetitive. The media for the power filter consists of 1. Sponge 2. Bio-Foam (black) My question is this: When I change the water and clean the sponge out (I do this every month), should I also clean out the bio-foam?

    Enough oxygen?

If you want to test the oxygen levels, I recommend the product by TETRA. Here's a link. ---> O2 Test Kit

    Filter Upgrades

I would say AquaClear. Not because Whispers are loud (as mine are really quiet), but because of the way that they do the media exchange on them.
