    Cycling, how does this look???

AFAIK you don't take it out... it'll completely decompose. Nasty, but it works.

    tore down my little 5.5gal...

I've soaked my fake plants and ornaments in a bucket of water with a splash of bleach (not sure of the exact proportions) then a major rinse to get the gunk off, then another soak in water and a big dose of dechlorinator. If you've got 24-48 hours to let the bleach evaporated off the...

    fish food overdose

You did what I would do, water changes and water tests. Keep an eye on things for a few days until all is back to normal... you might just have some chubby lil fish ;)

    What are these little animals?

I've seen worse - coworker of mine has 8 or 9 goldfish (some of em are pretty big too) in a 29g. My jaw hit the ground. Friend of a friend has a pleco, betta, clown loach, shark of some sort and some other fish in a 10g. Think sardines...

New To Hobby Lots of Questions

Hi there, welcome to AC! How long has the 29g been running, is it cycled? If not, check out this link: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26051 tons of info on cycling a tank. The cloudiness could be from bacteria blooms. If your tank is cycled, you might need some extra...

    Newbie-ish tank questions

Silverfire - I'd suggest to buy the tank locally, then shop online for everything else. Better selection, WAY better prices. I've gotten a heater from www.mops.ca and I'm thinking of ordering supplies from www.jlaquatics.com for my next tank. MOPS is based somewhere in southern ontario, J&L...

    outdoor tropicals in florida

How much water/how big of a tank are we talking about here? standard aquarium heaters like ebo's, etc could work, not sure if they're meant for outdoor use, they are completely submersible though... so I suppose it could work. Depending on the amount of water you've got, you could get multiple...

    Bio-Spira?

Bio-Sprira = bacteria in a bottle. It contains the proper bugs to convert ammonia to nitrite to nitrate. Essentially it allows you to bypass 'cycling' a tank. Or an instant cycle. Not sure how much you need, should say on the package. I'd say its rare to see at a LFS, its certainly not at mine...

Long shot - looking for a ~5g setup

I live wayyyy up in BC, near the beginning of the Alaska Highway (if thats any help :p) At the moment I'm VERY broke, so it'll be at least a month til I'm ready to get into things. It sounds like a great little setup. The substrate and plants might make shipping difficult. I'm hoping to do some...

Whats on your night table? (Book review)

No, I live in Fort St. John, so I found it in the library up here. It should be in the Vancouver public library (which, by the way, is a gorgeous building). Search for the author. this link might help a little, has the proper info...

    outdoor tropicals in florida

Hi, the only fish that I can think that are happy in those sorts of temps are goldfish and koi. Even fancy goldfish wouldn't be too happy with that. As for heating, I think gardening stores, and places like Home Depot might have pond heaters. Hope that helped a little...

    Ideal Newbie Setup?

for a fry tank, a simple sponge filter would work well. You can make your own (There's a link to instructions how to build one somewhere around here) fairly easily, or pick one up. For a 29g, a HOB filter like an AquaClear or Penguin or a cannister would work just fine. HOBs are comparitively...
