Gorgeous altos, Razzo. Discus of Tanganyika IMO.

    Lepidiolamprologus Lemarii Baby

Very nice, Mike. Not a fish I get to see often.

    Steatocranus tinanti

I think they're beautiful! Okay, so they're ugly, lol. Their saving grace is their personality: always curious, up at the front glass when you approach and very aware of people, the " hopping " way of movement that comes with lack of swim -bladder makes them interesting to watch, and they're...

75G Hex Tanganyika Tank ::: Back in the Hobby

Very nice. Calvus will appreciate some shells and/ or tight crevices. They are technically large shell dwellers. What else do plan to keep?

Here is the male with his big ole nuchal hump:

    Steatocranus tinanti

My LFS got a handful in about a year ago. I thought they were Buffalo Heads but when he told me what they were I was very interested. I like to stick with Tangs and wanted something similar to a goby or other fish lacking a swim bladder. They're not the prettiest fish but they make up for it in...

    Steatocranus tinanti

Yep, I bought the female a little over a year ago and the male a few months after. Still waiting for fry...

    Steatocranus tinanti

I have a few other pics of the male that are a bit closer. I'll try to find them this afternoon. I've been stuck with the Coolpix camera until I fix my good one... haven't been taking as many photos.

    Updated 20 gallon Planted

Hmm... good question. I really don't know. I know the stricta gets a deep red hue under bright lighting; I'm not familiar with the kompakt strain.

My 125 gallon build a.k.a. in the deep end...

Stand looks good and sturdy. And this hobby is definitely addicting. There are quite a few cost saving corners you can cut when it comes to substrates and filtration systems, even lighting... although if you're going planted I don't think anything will beat metal halides. If you go low- light, 2...

    Updated 20 gallon Planted

Thanks for the compliments. I haven't had many fish losses in the past year or so, but when I have lost them I usually never do find them. I figure they're eaten by the shrimps and the rest is fertilizer.

Been awhile. Tank is almost 2 years old.

    staghorn algae

I just had to spend two weeks away from my tanks about a month ago, and staghorn got ahold quickly. I didn't give some new purchases a peroxide bath and viola! The most effective treatment I've found ( and I'm no expert ), is to remove the algae by hand, and trim off leaves it's stubbornly...

    What's Your Favorite Fish?

I'd have to go with Calvus as well for Africans, Apistogramma for SA.

    Help me please!

If you want cats look into Synodontis petricola.

Dreaming up a new tang tank

They are/ were gorgeous. I've had the same problem. They never seem to truly acclimate and slowly wither away. Have you tried keeping them in a species- only tank? If I had the disposable income to throw another 10 in the 75 with maybe only a few synos I would totally try it. Mine always seemed...
