Thanks for the responses guys.
I absolutely can't afford a new tank right now. If I put the Jack Dempsey into the 20g by himself, how long do you think I'll have before he outgrows it? I should be able to buy a bigger tank in a few months.
Same question, I guess for the 4 Africans.
If...
Hi all,
I recently bought a 30 gallon tank and decided to move away from my usual live bearers (I have platies and guppies in my 2 smaller tanks) and instead go with cichlids. The tank came with a Jack Dempsey that was about 3 inches long at the time. I added 4 African cichilds - 2 electric...
Sorry for the slow response, guys! Was ill for a few days. Thanks for all of your responses! I closed the blinds for a few days and the problem went away completely in my 20g and is almost gone in my 10g (which is closer to the window)!
Hey all,
I have four tanks in my office, two of which are close to the windows and get a lot of sunlight. Those two 9as is expected) are giving me some trouble with algae. I was away for 3 months and the friend who took care of the tanks didn't clean them though she did change the water...
Oh! I knew they were aggressive to smaller fish but I didn't realise they would attack each other. :( The one with the problem is slightly smaller. ****.
Thanks for the advice!
I bought two kissing gouramis last week and placed them in one of my 10-gallon tanks. The tank had been recently emptied, cleaned and restarted. I came in this morning and one of them has a large, rough patch on BOTH sides of his body. It looks really bad and I have no idea what it is or what...
Generally I don't have a problem with cleaning my tanks but I was away for 2.5 mths and my friend who was taking care of my fish didn't clean the tanks while I was gone. I've done the much needed cleaning and water changes for all my tanks since I've been back but one tank has algae growing on...
I know nothing of angels but as someone who has platies you might want to think twice of having them in the tank if all you want ultimately is a angel/cory tank. Unless all your platies are the same sex you will soon have more platies and more platies and more platies. lol Unless the angels...
Are you sure it's not ick? I know nothing of goldfish but the rapid onset and the white spots sound like when my mollies got ick. Adding salt and raising the temperature to above 80F cured my tank but I lost a number of fish to the disease first.
In my 20G tank I currently have 7 mollies (one male) and they are not aggressive to each other at all. The male is quite a happy little bigger (three of the females gave birth over the past 2 weeks).
Getting rid of the male would make most sense but I love him! :'( I think I'll just let the kiddies grow some more and then work something out to give them away to either other students/faculty in my department or maybe my local pet store.
I'm always very pleased when my fish have babies as I take it to mean that they are happy and healthy. But it also means that my tanks are always threatened with over-population! My 20G tank had 7 mollies (6 females, 1 male) and one glo-fish (I know, I know, he needs more company than that)...
Hmm.. well the whole new fixture for each tank will be too expensive for me right now and the tanks are not all together so the shoplight stretching won't work.
Gah. Just checked the prices of the AH Supply kits. Seems like this is a project that will have to wait a while. Thanks for the...
I'm a grad student so I share my office with 2 other students. The tanks belong to the three of us though I take care of all of them so I can do whatever I want with them. :) So you're suggesting that I remove the entire light sock for the old, long bulbs, replace it with new sockets and cf bulbs?
Hey guys,
I'm hoping for some help with a lighting question I have. There are 4 aquariums in my office and three of them (2 10-gallon and 1 20-gallon) have the regular hood and light with the fluorescent 4,200K 15W bulbs. The smallest tank however (6-gallons) has a mini compact fluorescent...
Hmm.. I'm torn cause I don't like the color clash of the glo-fish with the mollies but he will not be any happier in either of my other tanks. I guess I'll have to get him some company.
Thanks for responding!
