    Unexpected revamp!

It has been so long since I have posted here, cripes! :hypnotized: Anyway, I had an equipment failure while I was on vacation for a week. :rant2: I came home to a tank at 55f and had lost my awesome koi angel, 6 marble hatchets, one of my L387 plecs, and all but 3 flame tetras from my 75g. I...

    Way over stocked?

I agree that if the kribs or the rams develop mating pairs you may have trouble. Otherwise, I don't think it's overstocked at all, especially since it's heavily planted.

Warmer Weather! What's everyone looking forward too? (Aquarium wise)

I'm looking forward to finally being able to rinse out my black sand to add to my 75g. I took out the blue/black/purple gravel that was in it, but then it got too cold to rinse out the sand before winter. I was able to use some sand from another tank I was tearing down but needed to get more to...

    Cory love

Gotcha! It's not a breeding post, just a why-did-I-wait-so-long-to-get-cories post. I'd rearranged tanks and had to give up my brackish puffer tank sadly to bring home my betta from work, long story. Anyway, we then decided to rearrange the house and get rid of some furniture and the 29g tank so...

    Woo! $7 Roseline Sharks!

Uh, sweet deal! Mine has them...for $49.99 each....I totally wanted 6 of them for my 75g, but I just couldn't hack it at that price, and it's not fair to them to only have a couple. I guess I should've looked at the fish when I went there today, just got dog stuff.

guess what BFM is getting for her birthday! :)

I agree. The only thing I would be worried about is if some of the current ones are small enough (such as still juvies or are just small) could fit in his mouth, but my kribs only were aggressive when defending their territory while breeding, and then they were nightmares. Once I went down to...

Can you increase the output of a filter by removing media?

The less media there is, the higher the water flow (force). However, that also equals less beneficial bacteria and less to polish the water of debris. Bgolfer is right that most filters test their flow rating based on empty or nearly empty filters, which is why we usually recommend a filter that...

    Empty Looking Bottom

Well, I recently got cories after wanting them for a long time but not having room. Granted, it's only been a week and that is way too soon to tell (heck, a year is too soon to tell if it will shorten lifespans if we're talking that), but I have 8 "punctatus" cories that I think are actually...

Is this tank suitable for DP's?

Well, it's not that they don't like MTS. It's that the MTS shells are so very hard that they can crack and permanently damage puffer's teeth. Only the largest of puffers can handle them, and even then most owners don't want to risk their prized fish. You could do either 3 or 5 with only 1 male...

Where Do I Get That Cool Black Sand Everyone Has?

Mine is TCC Material's Black Blast for sandblasting. I got it at Menard's (it's like Lowes or Home Depot) for $7 for a 50 pound bag. I'd originally gotten just Flourite Black Sand for a tiny planted only tank, but the Black Blast was actually smoother/softer and blacker than the Flourite Sand...

5 gallon filter? Or filterless =-0

I've been using a Tom Dive Clean Mini on my 5.5g, but I would probably not put it on anything over a 3 gallon in the future. I've been having to clean it at least once a week, and by that time, it's so clogged that there's barely any water movement. It's a nice little filter, but I think a 5.5g...

    Substrate question

MTS can be great for planted tanks. They help aerate the soil without stirring it manually, which is a good thing for sand substrates. The plant roots will aerate the soil too, but it's nice to have a backup. You don't have to change out for Eco Complete as the above said. You can get similar...

    Carpet plants

Marsilea minuta. It's a loosely carpeting plant, but it stays nice and short and is a reasonably slow grower so you don't have to trim all the time.

Is FedEx overnight necessary when ordering fish online?

It really depends on the situation for me. I've never ordered Express, but I've ordered at least 4 times for fish and at least 6 times for inverts with Priority Mail. I've only had trouble with 1 order, and the seller highly recommended using Express since it was a very cold winter on both ends...

    Sticking My Neck Out Wondering:

:iagree: A rough guide I've always read was that if you are comfortable in your room's temp, then the goldfish will be too. Now, that doesn't account for fluctuations or people who like it really cold or really warm, but since most people like somewhere between 70-75F, it's fairly accurate. I...

Sooo, you want a catfish, huh?

I know! It was cool to see such a huge fish, but it was kinda sad that it probably wasn't going to be used for anything except bragging rights. And yeah, that reporter was awful. What a voice, uck! I thought it was a cool vid anyway. I wouldn't want that in my tank. I'll stick with my 5" L387...

dosage amount for Prime in smaller amounts of water?

Hey, I never thought of that. I just use medication droppers, but they don't have any measurement lines or list what they hold. I use 4 drops per gallon for my 5.5g tank. Well, that's what I figured out I would need, but I'm paranoid and use 5-6 drops per gallon. I use an empty milk jug for...

    used filter transplant

You could gradually lower the salinity by 0.002 per week, which would keep the bacteria alive and allow them to adjust to the lower salinity (or at least give time for freshwater types to grow), but you would probably be just as well off by cleaning it out and then cycling it for freshwater.

    Fluval C2 ongoing review

I'm really intrigued by that wet/dry section incorporated into the power filter design. I have to say that it looks quite impressive.
