No I do not replace them just squeeze them a few times in the WC bucket and replace to keep them free flowing. Too much squeezing and/ or chlorinated water will screw up the bio-filter.....
They (fish) may harass the V Shrimp.... This could lead to health problems. The V Shrimp will be fine with the Neocaridina shrimp species you mentioned. I use coarse sponges on my intakes of my HOBs ans still have good flow....
Yes there is a good chance they will harass the adult shrimp and will hunt down the young for food as well.... If they do not right away they will learn eventually that shrimp are pretty tasty.
My Tetras and Guppies in a community tank at my home also have learned this about the shrimp we added...
I ship hundreds of shrimp USPS a year and have only lost 1 shipment, even had one bag of blue pearls leak... USPS put a bag around the box and still delivered! only one died with only a quarter cup of water left and 3 days in transit.
I always use breather bags and have had shrimp live for 7...
I agree that your tanks were likely simply too "New" I have learned over a couple years of keeping shrimp successfully that patience and stability are the keys. I normally will not put shrimp into a tank less than 30 days matured or more... Overkill?...Perhaps, but I rarely ever have deaths...
I am keeping and breeding Cardinal Shrimp and they are somewhat difficult. I have had a colony for a year of so now and have lots of young.
Parameters are PH 8.2, temp 82F, TDS below 150 or breeding seems to slow for me so I use RO to keep it down. There are several folks running successful...
Not to be disagreeable here, but it is always best to add shrimp to a fully cycled mature tank. Yes indeed RCS are quite hardy and may show no ill effects, but this is not the case with some of the species in the Caridina genus and even some Neocaridina sp.
I have learned this the hard way a...
It is a Caridina sp. commonly called Mandarin Shrimp and unfortunately will need brackish water for the larval stage of young making them difficult to breed, but very nice shrimp indeed!
Bummer... The shrimp shown was an American Glass Shrimp and does indeed breed in FW as DarrylR mentioned..... The red bands on antenna help in IDing them....
