Stress Zyme

its true you won't have to freak out if you forget to refrigerate biospira when you get home or something. the fact is, the higher the temperature gets, the faster their metabolism increases. the less food there is left in the pouch or bottle, the more bacteria that dies. the more bacteria that dies, the less effective your Bio-Spira is. after paying $15 for a 1oz package, i better place the thing in a refrigerator if i want it to work its best.

Does BioSpira really needed to be refrigerated at all time? Here is what Marineland has to say about this.

Nitrospira, Nitrosomonas, and Nitrosospira bacteria can survive at temperature as high as 90*F or as low as 50*F without dying. They become inactive at at 39*F and die at 32*F or below or 120*F and above.

BioSpira doesn't need to be refrigerated at all times.

Rohn - You are the man. Thanks for sharing this informative info about Bio Spira. From the information I received on this forum, I read that Bio Spira needed to be refrigerated or it became ineffective. I had lost confidence in my local fish store who told me it didn't needed to be frigerated and that refrigeration just extended its shelf life which is exactly correct. I used it to cycle my 75 gal tank and it worked great. I have had zero ammonia and nitrites and am now just beginning to see some nitrates. This was with adding fish immediately after setting up my tank.

Who are you going to believe, Marineland, manufacturer of Bio Spira, or mature aquarists like us on this forum.
Marineland data is also supported by many other independent biologocal researchers that has nothing to do with fish or biospira.
I also heard the refrigeration of biospira on these forums and then my LFS told me that they don't need to be refrigerated. So I did some research.

I wil second the recommendation to Seachem Prime. It is wicked stuff and it goes a very, very long way. (5 mL does 200L) I use 6 drops in 8 liters of water! If you buy a bottle just get a small one. I started my 72g with a 500ml bottle and haven't even used a 10th of it yet. Oh, also get a very small shring that will measure .1 ml increments. Otherwise it's impossible to manage your doses.

The other product I will swear buy is Seachem Stability. It is the best for cylcing your tank and to add after large water changes or when adding new fish. It is also quite economical.
