Turbo snails and hermit crabs have worked wonders for me. The crabs churn up your crused coral, and de-algae every surface they can get their claws on. The snails will get on your substrate, and they can glide on crushed coral. They won't eat green algae, though. Anyone know something that will?????

That brown algae is/are diatoms. Normal for all tanks and good sign of cycling.

THose magnetic glass wipers work great for cleaning the inside and as suggested above, cleaners will keep it "clean".

Gold headed sleepers are excellent at keeping substrate clear of brown algae. They take it in their mouths sift it and pass it out their gills. Your substrate must be fine enough though for them to take in their mouths.
