Cajun dwarf crayfish carrying eggs!

In celebration of the new "Inverts" category, I thought I'd share that one of my cajun dwarf crayfish is carrying eggs! I've had a group of 8 for about 2 months now and I was somewhat disappointed that they hadn't spawned yet. What a treat!

I'll try to post some pictures this weekend. Basically I keep them in a 29g with about 12 coconut caves. Each cave has Java Fern attached to it. The crayfish love caves.

I don't keep them with any fish. I'm trying to maximize their production and most fish would eat the babies. I do keep them with wild-type cherry shrimp.

Last night I just witnessed, what I think is, cajun crayfish mating.

Basically a male was holding a female down in a very submissive pose for about 10 minutes. He was holding her pincer claws still with his (so she couldn't get away?).

It was neat to watch.

For my own collection. There are plenty of places to buy them since they breed so easily. Expect to pay about $5 per crayfish plus shipping.
