Hello all, I just started my first Saltwater Nano tank(10gallons) and I went out to look for the one thing I really wanted, an anemone. I went to a store and began looking through their tanks, they had a small green/purple one that was angrily waving it's tenticles at passing fish, and this large white anemone with purple tips. they were asking $30 for it, and like all my purchases, I bought it without really knowing what it was. now I am concerned that this particular specimen might make it hard for me to add any other type of reef creatures(corals, etc) or just might be hard to keep alive.
so here are some pictures, my clowns love it, they won't even stray too far for food! like I said, I am not sure what it is exactly that I bought. if you could tell me what it is, and what it's tempermant is like, I'd appreciate it.

What do you have for lighting, it looks very bleached?

Also, if you dont get a fast result, and seeing as how this is a current state of the anemone, i would suggest you check out www.reefcentral.com

Good luck!

yeah you'll need halides, im sorry to say you should return it, it will quickly outgrow a 10 gallon and it needs pristine water conditions which is incredibly hard to have in a tank that small. They also need mature tanks that are 6 months minimum with 1 year being the recommended. And yeah, you are in trouble. Hard to keep alive like practically all anemones and not reef safe in a tank this size. Sorry to bring the bad news but you should have been more careful to buy things without knowing what they are and how to take care of them, excpessially anemones, you can get them for 10 dollars at my lfs so to top that off you got ripped off.

Its a blue tipped anemone, similar to the pink tipped, its a caribbean one

You cannot keep any anemone in a tank this size successfully except the aipstasia ones

they sell em for 3 dollars here

and here is some more information, this is the pink tipped, there both similar to each other

i dont believe it is bleached it is just a white colored nem, i wana say Heteractis malu. unfortunately they do very poor in captivity,(if it is one), and they get well over a foot in diameter. please in the future try to look things up...for the sake of the animals:read:its such beautiful animal.
best of luck though maybe with the clowns and some better lighting(metal halides), it will be just fine. also maybe check out this link
