Ive been doing some research on angel fish, and I have a spare 20 gallon i'm going to be setting up soon. Some sites say 20 gallon is perfect for a pair of angels, others say 40 gallon minimum?
Any body on here had any luck with angels in a standard 20 gallon? Or is this just a really bad idea?
Thanks!

I prefer a minimum of 40 for a pair. The 20 may be fine for a small1" pair for a very limited growout. But they grow fast.

20 gallons is often used for temporary measures only such as breeding purposes, not on long-term basis, Firebelly_girl.:)

I keep one angel in a 29 gallon, and that is the minimum that I would recommend.

I would recommend a 29 for a pair..enough room for them to swim, grow and spawn . the 29 is taller than the 30 the 30 is longer(angels need the height.)
best would be a 40 but not necessary.

OK thank you all =)
Do you guys have any other type of suggestion on fish that can live in a 20 gallon? Just not with the large height like angels?

while these fish stay relatively small..they would most likely be to large for a 20.
the firemouth will need more swimming room and would benefit with a larger tank(29-40 g)
a pair of convicts would need more room than a 20 can provide and do better in a 30 or larger.

I am aware of some angel breeders who actually spawn angels in 10 gal tanks. I have spoken with people I trust who have actually seen this.

The thing about using a smaller space for spawning paired angels it that it takes a much more stringent maint. routine to pull off.
