Good day eveyone... here is a newby question.. I test my water with a API test kit( liquid method) and I get reading of

ammonia - 0
nitrite- 0
nitrate - 20ppm (nitrate-ion)

now is my nitrate (20ppm) the actual nitrate? or I need to divide this by 4.4? which I have read before about measuring nitrate-ion is different than measuring nitrate nitrogen??

any expect please help

There's no need to convert the nitrate ion result to nitrate-nitrogen unless you are trying to compare results between nitrate test kits that measure nitrate differently. In the vast majority of tables / charts / recommendations, toxicity is expressed based upon nitrate ion, not nitrate-nitrogen. Measuring nitrate ion is actual nitrate, where as a nitrate-nitrogen result is only the amount of nitrogen present in the nitrate ion.

I hope that helps some.
