I am thinking of setting up a 20g or a 15g FW tank.

Are there any FW fish that have snake-like bodies, like an eel, that I could fit into my 15 or 20g tank?

ideally I would like a fish that is peaceful and does well in hard alkaline water.

Does anyone know a fish that fits this description?

I have an eel. He's great and ver personable.

If you go down that route, then only get a few very small fishies...tertras and whatnot.

Needless to say, those mininum recommendations of 50 gallons for a loach that gets 3" in captivity are nothing less than stupid. And if you look at the Dojo loach, which they say gets 8" in captivity, they recommend minimum of 30 gallons. Liveaquaria is not an accurate source of information.

Kuhlis are very cool and a small group should be fine in a 15Gallon. They are nocturnal and like to hide but tend to be more visible and active when in a group. I would get at least 4. Did I mention they like to hid... a lot.

Get a 20g long and stock with:

6 Kuhlis
8 Small tetras (neons) OR cherry barbs OR white clouds/danios (pretty much the same thing besides colors)

6 fully grown kuhlis would be alot for the bottom levels, so try four first.

wow I like that loach, thats a cool fish, I might get some of those for the 20, they are not expensive either, that is a plus. I want to make a bunch of caves and tunnels for them, so the hiding is cool.
Rwilliams, what is the name of the eel you have and would it work in a 20g?

I saw some ropefish at petco, they look cool, but I don't know about size requirements. Is there any way I could keep a small frog with a loach? there was a small frog swimming with fish at Petco.
I have wondered about the tank recommendations on liveaquria as well.

He's a Stripped Peacock Eel, we've named him Pacino. He'll get between 10 and 12" long and live for 7-10 years.
