Anyone use it in their Discus tank?
pro's....cons

I know alot like bare botttom tanks, but my wife would prefer some substrate cover. I have small gravel now and have no problems. I like the look of sand, but have never used it.
Any help would be appreciated

I orefer other substrates to sand in my discus tank.

it's a matter of preference really. my tank is planted with lots of driftwood.

if I did it over I would prob go with eco complete.

I prefer the gravel with the discus or bare bottom.

whats wrong with sand for rooted plants? havent had problems before. many people use it and have great plants.
Well, for plants that are mainly recieve nutrients from their roots and not the water column, it can be a problem because the sand compacts the roots to tightly. Also, sand does not really have any nutritional value compared to eco complete, aqua soil, etc.

My java ferns do great because they do not need to be buried, but my swords leave something to be desired. I think I would switch, but the tank looks so nice when I clean the sand. lol
