they had a tank full at the lfs today... what nice fish! hard to swallow at 9 bucks each, but really beautiful coloring on the fins, and a nice beefy height to them... are these good community fish? how big do they get?
Google says that they're also known as "bento's white tip tetra" or "false rosy tetra" ... if so, pretty but doesn't seem to be much info on them either... at least, not in my very brief search...
yeah, I didn't find much. they had fairly plain looking bodies, tall for a tetra, but had red and white striped fins with a lot of contrast. the white was really white.
$9 seems a bit steep. The Petsmarts around here sell those guys for $4 or so. Mine were always very community-friendly. I had them in with cories and other tetras and dwarf cichlids. The adults turn a beautiful pink color and they keep their white tipped fins. The males were about 1.5" and the females were slightly larger. My males always displayed at each other, which was nice to watch.
it looked a bit like that photo, but the top fins weren't as feathery, and their shape was closer to what I think of as "tetra", not as much of the bulb on the head. very similar. close enough to say the same at different ages maybe.
