I'm getting ready to set up a 80g and need some ideas. The tank is 58""x18"x18".
I was thinking about discus, but keeping up on my regular WCs is not my forte (work and a 6mo old at home). Plus just the buying of them would take me awhile to save up, since the cheapest I can find is $50 so for ten it would cost me $500 for ten.
My next choice would be a monster like a arwana, but the tank is too small.
So maybe some angels, but the koi angels I like are hard to come by...

So I was looking for some ideas....

Well not to try to sway you,but if the price of Discus is the big drawback there is a guy in Lockport,IL who sells them very reasonable. I just purchased 1/2 dozen from him 2 weeks ago.The price on this 1/2 dozen just about equaled what 2 fish cost elsewhere, plus they are Quality fish.

I got 2 Red Melons, 1 White Diamond,1 Snakeskin,1Gold Milinium and 1 Blue.
All these fish were put in a 55 gal aquarium with about 20 other community fish and 3 other Discus while I am waiting for my 125 gallon to cycle, which will then become a Discus tank.
I currently do water changes every other day,but I truly believe this could even be cut done some after they are moved. Now they are definately in a WELL stocked (over) envrioment making water changes a little more frequent.

Also we use Chicago water, and I do nothing more than add Prime when doing water changes. The PH is about 8.0,and as long as acclimated corrrectly, they will have no problem. The seller uses 1/2 RO and 1/2 city water, just for that reason.

You live in one of the best cities for Discus in the country. There are many breeders there you just gotta look. I recommend you go to J&J Discus in Chicago. Tell Jim that Johnathan from Milwaukee sent you and it would help if you are a Bears fan.........

Paid 22$ each, total of 6, for some of Jim's beauties!!!!!!

Thanks for those links Red. I need to go out to Carol Stream in 2 weeks for a meeting, so maybe I'll set an appt. with Jim to take a look.
