Which side of the sump do I put my pump?

Does it go on the larger side or smaller?

Such a bad question, I know!!!

That's what I was looking for Rob. Thanks!

I probably could have described it better, sorry!

Is it always so noisey where the water is leaving the tank?

It has been a while since my last salt tank. I remember my old hang on the back overflow had some noise, but the noise now is almost too the point where its way too loud.

Let me explain my setup real quick, and let me know if you think that would be possible for me.

I do not have an actual HOB overflow. The back is drilled, and has a 1.25" PVC pipe with a gasket over (to prevent snails,etc... from entering). It goes through the back of the tank and is almost shaped like a T. A piece of PVC goes up that is completely open to the air, and the lower goes down into my sump.

Does that make sense?

The opening at the top makes some major noise!!

Any suggestions? Think the DIY would work for that. The PVC is also 1.25" at the opening on top.

Also, if I fill the water level completely over the intake, it fills to fast for my sump. Do I need a bigger pump for the return to equal this out?

The pump is a magdrive 5 (500 gph), the tank is a 40 gallon.
