I have a 35 gallon hexagon tank and would like to buy an angel fish as the "centerpiece" fish. The tank currently has 2 platies and 2 marble hatchetfish. What fish make good tank mates for angels?

One angel, if it is a must. Small footprint and not enough free swimming space IMO.

Rummies, hatchets, Rasbora...

no, wouldn't put an angel in a 20g long as there would not be anough heght for the fish to freely swim

35g hex is probably about the same footprint as a 20g long, so it is probably pushing it a bit, however the hex has the height advantage over the long....there are probably better options for a centrepiece fish for this tank admittedly, however am trying to find the best option for the guy....theres no point in dismising out of hand when there is a solution which may work, probably at a push

First of all, I would bump up the hatchets to 6, as they like being in groups.

I would buy 8 tetras or rasboras of your choice, and as for a centerpiece, a gourami would be great. I personally dont think a 35hex has enough swim room for an angelfish.
