I managed to pick up this rock for $10 at the store since they had a sale. Is this a certain zoo color morph/type or does it have a common name? Also, there definitely appears to be a clam that is covered in zoos on the rock. Is this clam alive? Is there anyway I can find out?

You can clearly see the clam in this one. One half is covered in zoos.

Fantastic buy! This site has many named zoas on it: http://www.zoaid.com

Make sure you handle it with gloves (a bit late now perhaps) as some zoas have a palytoxin you want to avoid, especially if you have any cuts. Also check it really closely for pests such as aeloid nudibranches and sundial snails.

The mollusk looks like a bivalve as you've already guessed but I'm not sure what kind.

First you appear to have some type of dragon eye morph, second if the bivalve is alive it will close and open on it's own if it stays open all the time it is dead.

Thanks :) I thought the deal was pretty decent considering I spent $10 before on very very small frag pieces.

Thats an amazing website! I couldn't find mine, but I had a great time drooling over some of the zoos.

Ah, the Dragon Eye sounds interesting. I will have to check out some pictures on the web. And thanks a bunch for that bivalve info. Currently it has been closed (but I have only had it for 5 hours). Do they respond to Phyto? I could add some of my filter feeding food to the tank. Maybe it will open to feed?

They definitely are Radioactive Dragon Eyes. That zoaID site did actually have them. I just didn't notice that you could click on the Dragon Eye picture to view the several different color variations.

I believe the picture on the far bottom left matches nicely. My camera quality just isn't up to par with that picture though.

The zoas will color up more if you have low phosphates and bright lights.

The clam is probably an oyster. They encrust rocks. The very nice ones are "thorny oysters" and are very attractive.

The clam will survive if it gets phytoplankton. One form is the green film on your tank glass that you clean of with scraper, the other form is DT's Phyto in a bottle.
