Hi, I got into SW I used to have a 45 gal FOWLR with a DSB but my tank cracked and I moved so It's been hard to want to get back into the hobby with such a bad expierence I had to give my Huma Huma trigger fish, Snowflake moray, udulated trigger, and clown back to the petco with no refund or credit :( but anyways I just got the urge to start back I've began getting items for my 55 gal and I was wondering how good a Emporer 400 is?

thanks

Not sure about saltwater but I know it is probably the best hang-on filter you can buy for freshwater. A little noisy at first but when the bio-wheels absorb water it quiets down.

I'd not use the UGF either. If you have enough live rock (1-2#s per gallon)you won't need a mechanical filter. Some (like myself) still run a mechanical filter but it is a matter of choice. I do it because I already had one. I went with the Marineland C-220 which is uber quiet.

thanks for the help I plan on 60 pounds of live sand and 50 pounds of LR, How long should the tank cycle with all of this? I'm also using 50 gallons of ocean water.
