My friend has some baby koi (approx 2") in his pond and is afraid they'll die this winter. He wants to try and catch them and put them in my 20G tank over the winter. Any thoughts?
The depth of the pond is going to be a huge factor, but with them at that age, I would imagine that they don't stand much of a chance if it freezes over...
Now, we have another question...how many would be going into your tank? That could get somewhat ugly as well. He could just buy a large (non-galvanized) stock tank for overwintering.
The pond is 3 ft in the deepest area. He's had it for several years now. I think these baby koi are a bit special for some reason, and only a few. I imagine catching them will be a challenge in itself!
