I was talking to someone yesterday who said that the water in his tank was purer than the water that comes out of his faucet...so ....I started thinking....would any of you drink the water in your tanks?

No - but then again I don't drink from public swimming pools either.

this person would be wrong.

the water from your aquarium has a much higher nitrate level than most municipal drinking water standards, much higher suspended solids, total dissolved solids, possible ammonia levels etc etc etc.
Not to mention the serious health risks from bacteria such as e.coli. :duh:

You could use bottled water, or have your own RO/DI (or other purification) rig set up to clean the tap water. That being said, heh, it depends on how much you're paying me and how much I'm drinking (I'm sure if it was toxic enough, I'd have gotten sick from it by now). In general though, no, I would not drink my tank water.
