I have a 30 gal tank that I need a filter for. I seen on petsmarts site that they have a hang on box filter in a Rena brand. It is about $65 or so and filters up to 55 gal. My past experience w HOB filters is that they are noisy, and the impellers go bad, motors burn out ect. I have problems especially when we have power flickering. The power goes off for a second, filter loses siphon and burns up when power comes back on, especially bad if this happens while you are not home. so are the Renas better? Also I'm wondering how far from the wall this filter might set from the tank? The website didn't give alot of info about the filter really and I am an hour from the store.
