So I might exchange my GSP to a fig8 puffer since I only have a 20 gallon aquarium, and with plants. I will keep the hardy plants and have a little bit of salt, a very low end brackish water. To achieve this low end brackish water, how much salt will I need about for a 20gal aquarium. How should I introduce the salt?

I did. I read all of the sticky things for brackish. None of them seem to exactly say what I need to do though. Help please.

Thanks

I agree, Seabass it is going to be trial and error. To give you a rough guideline in marine we use 1/2c for every 1 gallon to bring it to 1.023 with many commercial salts. I use a little more because I like mine a tiny bit higher. You'd of course use much less. So get your salt mix container, fill with water and start experimenting.

I found roughly it takes about 1 cup of salt/5g to raise the SG .005. You'll have to do the math from there, as you only want to raise it .001-.002/week & do it after a water change, so you'll be removing some salt with that. Do not do this w/o a hydrometer!

It's also going to depend on what brand of salt you are using and if it's been left open to the air (it will absorb moisture). For a while, I was able to get right to 1.005 by adding 13 Tbs and 2 tsp of Oceanic salt (216 grams I think) per 5 gallons of water. I've since changed to Reef Crystals, and I would not be surprised if that measurement is now slightly off.
