I'm trying it out in my 10 gal. to see how I like it before I get a big tank and commit to buying 100 lbs of the stuff. :) Anything I should know or do? I've put my fish in a 5 gal. with the same filter running for the time being because I know they can't go in the new tank till the sand settles down. About how long should I keep them in the 5?

Is it okay to not run a filter for now on the 10 while the sand settles in the water? I'll be putting my live plants and ornaments in there.

you dont need to run a filter until your sand settles down.

and make sure to make the filter intake high enough so it doesnt suck up any sand.
