My first attempt at hatching brigs (a journal)

I started this on another thread, but thought I would give it a thread all it's own. I actually watched my chestnut brig lay the small clutch. Found the big one in the lid so I have no idea how long it was there or which one laid it. I do know for sure that I have a purple male.

Anyway, I started out like this...



It a kitchen sponge with a scrubby (technical term) side. My thinking is that the sponge will keep it moist and the scrubby will keep the clutch from getting wer. The heating pad in on the lowest setting. Holes poked in the lid.



After 4 days (and lots of spritzing to keep it from drying out), this is what they looked like...



Sometimes I want to break the big one open to see if there are any viable eggs in there. I think I can see some developing babies, but I'm not sure. They are definately getting darker and some are looking kind of blue.

Any other tips/tricks? Can I turn the heating pad up just a little?

Gah! I hate typos and I can't edit it!

I'm pretty sure the ones inside are gonna hatch. I can see some dark ones. SO hard not to break it open. Should I?

That's they only thing that is stopping me! I don't wanna lose any because I broke it open too soon. But I don't want the ones inside to smother because the outside is too dry.

I caught them mating again last night. I hope she lays! I wish he would get with the ivory one, too. I wonder if I'll only get chestnut and purples. Hmmm....

Yeah, I'm going to try that if/when I get another clutch. I've also found some great ideas on www.applesnails.net that I want to try. I want to see if what I have works, too. lol
