Howdy

I am going to be upgrading my 20 gallon to a 55 gallon tank! I want to move over my 3 dwarf rainbows and probably get a few boseami rainbows too. I also have a small clown pleco, 2 cories & 2 rumynose. I am going to have this tank planted with a dark substrate. What suggestions would anyone have on what type of fish to add to this group? I was thinking about maybe getting a small school of harlequin rasb's. Would a pair of Krib's work with this set-up? How about a small batch of cherry shrimp? In the end, I would like the rainbows to be the stars of the tank :)

Thanks in advance :p

I'd simply add more dwarf neon rainbows and eliminate Boesemann's Rainbows. Add more tetras and cories. You can try add another clown pleco if you have enough driftwood in that 55g. I prefer apistos over kribs. Kribs are often eager to spawn and can be troublesome when in spawning conditions. Shrimps will be fine if you make your tank heavily-planted.:)

I have got Hard Chicago water that is getting a 7.4 pH out of the faucet. Don't Apsitos need soft water?

They will be fine with it. Buy them from local breeders where water conditions will almost always be similar to yours.:)

Thats a GREAT idea!

What tetras would work well in this set-up?

I've seen really great rainbow tanks, which will do better in the water, at 55 that are stocked with a school of a large rainbow like (5) bosemani, a bunch of dwarf rainbows and a trio or so of furcata or celebes rainbowfish, I assume cleanup etc. as well.

If I continue having problems with my planted tank I am restocking in this manner as well. I didn't check under the hood on the one tank I actually stood in front of(rather than looking at online) but I think its safe to assume you need a good canister filter minimum.
