I know puffers are mean little suckers but is a puffers agression level on par with african cichlids? Would puffers kill my africans or would my africans kill the puffers? Or are the puffers tough enough that they would simply keep each other at bay?

Dwarf puffers are freshwater fish and do prefer a neutral pH.. They are also much too small to reside with most African cichlids.. they would be lunch!

dwarf puffers are snack size. no way. even if you could find a larger freshwater puffer that wouldn't be eaten (and aside from food/water incompatibility) you would find yourself staring at a tank full of fish with no fins or tails, the puffer included. bad idea overall.

My LFS has 2 arrowhead puffers In one of their african cichlid display tanks and they seem to be getting along fine even know they are said to be EXTREMELY aggressive. They've had them for a while and I was thinking about picking one up, but they're so ugly:grinyes: plus their diets are completely different.

Dwarf puffers and African cichlids-Wrong combination. Obviously, the size of the DP's will not guarantee their survival against constant harassments. And if I may repeat, African cichlids are best kept by themselves and are not community fish.

How long was this combo done? How large was the tank? Just because it worked for someone, it does not mean it will work for the others. The only thing I agree with here is the diet.:)

fahaka plus africans is a cool setup but you need a very large aquarium and you may have some africans picked off
