Spixis are known to be nocturnal and dig underground during the day and come out and night to roam the area. My spixis do it too (the digging), no casualties from doing so.

some apple snails go into a period of aestivation (sp) where they bury themselves in the substrate as well. My spixis do this too, sometimes for a couple of days at a time. I would not be worried. I would feed them a little more though, 1 piece of jello (depeding on its size) for 15 snails is a bit on the low side.
